Prayers to Marty and his family tonight
« on: March 10, 2013, 01:17:34 AM »
Couldn't sleep at all last night . The pundants on TV were sayin how this econimy is getting better.
I kept thinkin for who? only thing I see is wall street keeps churnin and companies keep outsourcin.

My Friend of 43 years got his pink slip today . Marty is 58 and had 27 1/2 years in with his company as a machinist .  2 1/2 years to go before retirement, He served his county and has givin much. You think that would count for somethin in the big scheme of things. His boss (33 years old ) who is remote and lives is in California called him Friday night after work and told him on Monday they were letting him go with two weeks severance. Next week would be his final week . He can get by for a few weeks but chances are they will lose their house.

But hey the execs got there quarterly performance pay bonuses for the first quarter. Guess that's all that matters nowadays.

Prayers offered.  Likely he will need them a while.  The new "lower" unemployment rates are about as bogus as it gets.

Propaganda BS. The unemployment "rate" is lower because so many people have dropped out of the work force and are no longer being counted as unemployed, there are fewer new claims for compensation because fewer people have a job to lose.

The main factor is GREED. It is everywhere. It seems our government has gone the way of Satan and has thrown the word of God out the window. Not only does your friend Marty need prayers, the whole country needs prayers to bring government back to God. Term limits of our legislators should be a rule. Too many not doing enough to full fill the oath they took when sworn in.

Remember for nearly all of America there is no retirement, severance pay, or notice that you are being let go.  The chance of a 50+ male finding a new job are almost zero.

2 weeks severance after 27+ years, outrageous! Of course they let him go so they would not have to pay his pension. The only words I have for his boss and company will just be **** out so I will stop now. Prayers for him and his.

There are people that get a pension?

It's pretty common.  Happened to me at 59 when I injured my back.  I was fired on a technicality and went a year without income before receiving Social Security Disability.  Company managed to get out of all the disability coverage I thought I had in place.

We were going to buy my better half a new car this year. Hers is an '06. We had set aside a sum of money for her to use as a down payment. Wife told me lunch today,  "you know Marty and Donna have been real good friends to us over the years and I could probably get 3 - 4 more years out of my car". I knew right off where she was going , she was just looking for some reassurance. So instead of a new car this year , she decided to take a check over to Marty and Donna's after dinner. After pulling some teeth , Donna finally accepted.

It will be really really tight , but along with Marty's two weeks severance , his cashing in 5 days of accrued vacation he had earned, the pittance of an unemployment check he will receive and the little savings they had accumulated it should help keep them afloat in their house for about 6 months while Marty tries to find work before they will really need to consider more extreme measures.  At least it helps give them some breathing room in a very stressful time.

I'm pretty darn proud of my wife today, (as I am everyday), but especially today. What the heck . Wife looks
just fine in her '06 anyways,  and besides if we lose Marty and Donna who would we go camping with every year!!!!!.
True friends in life are hard to come by. When you find some , do your best to hold onto to 'em close is what I think.

Excellent Scootrd.  Thats the way it should be done, and in the long haul the only way we as a people are going to weather the coming financial storms.  We can work together and survive, or we can kill each other off and not.
