What kind of muzzleloaders have you got!
« on: February 18, 2004, 03:16:25 PM »
Just wondering what kind of muzzleloaders you all have or would like to have. I'll go first.

I have a Stainless Huntsman, it is fast becoming one of my favorites. I may also be buying a 26" Stainless Sidekick when they become available.

I have a few other Muzzleloaders also that I like to play with, they are as follows.

NEF Huntsman Stainless Steel in .50 caliber

Original Knight MK-85 in .50 caliber

Knight TK-2000 12ga

White G-Series Whitetail in .504 caliber

White White Thunder 12ga

White M-98 Elite in .451 caliber

T/C New Englander in .54 caliber

I also have 5 other H&R/NEF guns that I really enjoy shooting along with several others. The other H&R/NEF guns are as follows.

H&R Ultra Varmint .223

NEF Sportster .17HMR

NEF Ultra Slug Hunter Limited Edition 20ga

NEF Pardner .410ga

H&R Topper Junior NWTF Edition Jakes 20ga

(bought this at a NWTF Banquet for my son, that's where this addiction all started)  Now I just can't help myself!

OK Busta, I kind of like old things, I don't have any inlines (yet) and in my sadly liberal home state of Taxachusetts where judges never read a bible, don't believe in God and don't even know what marriage is, the Huntsman could not be used during ML season. The new Sidekick should remedy that since it is OK to use during M/L season, it is a non-firearm. I now have a .45 caliber TC Cherokee, a TC .54 Renegade with both standard length and custom made (by me and my friendly gunsmith) 20" barrels, a TC .50 Renegade with both standard length and custom 20" barrels and a .56 TC Renegade with a full length barrel for both round ball and 7/8 oz of #7 1/2 shot, my mini shotgun!! Life is good....<><....

Bustayote,

I only have 2 smokepoles in my gun safe.  Both are .50 cal. Huntsmans.  One stainless, one blued.  Love the way they shoot, handle, and clean up,  and don`t see the need to buy any other muzzleloaders.    tenzilla

50 cal huntsman which I really like. a 54 traditional side lock made from parts not a kit gun with a Green Mountain barrel and a 54 cal gun I am building now out of a 54 cal Knight Green Mountain barrel I got a excellent deal on along with a shotgun barrel for same. They were from the Mk 86 switch barrel models. bought both barrels to play with for 60 bucks new on a close out. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Busta'yote,

I currently have the following MLs:

Huntsman .50 cal .......wood/blue      ( me favorite modern made)

T/C Renegade Hunter,.50 cal

Knight Bighorn   .50 cal....camo/blue

CVA Mag Hunter  .50 cal.....camo/blue

Ohio/Penn Halfstock    .36 cal  ( caplock, circa 1855 by J.O.Robson ) me great-grandfathers, brass furniture,and shooting condition. :-)

Also have a vintage blackpowder cartridge gun:

Sharps New Model 1863 Calvary Carbine   .50-70 (passed down thru family)...shooting condition

Have many other guns but one of my recent favorites is the 12 ga H&R Ultra Slug Hunter Delux.  An absolute buck buster out to 150 yds and holds the distinction of claiming my all time largest whitetail to date.

Gotta tell you,...these one shot guns have helped make me a much better hunter,........hands down!  The more I use them, the luckier I get.   :)

Busta'yote

I only have two ML's but I'm working on it.

Huntsman 50 cal - blued

A & H 420 - nickle finish

Of the two the Huntsman is the more dependable and the one I take hunting.''

I currently only have one muzzleloader, a CVA 50 cal Hunterbolt with a Simmons 3-9X42 camo'd scope on it.  The stock is a synthetic material with a camo pattern on it.  It's lighter than my Featherweight and kicks like a mule, but man you gotta love those smoke poles :)

I am planning on picking up a Stainless Huntsman one of these days.

I used to have more ML guns than modern but now it's tipping the other way.  Time to add more ml guns :)

TC .50 Hawken and just added a .45 drop in barrel that I rescued at a gun show.  It was in rough shape, but for $30 it is now as nice as ever!
Lyman .54 Great Plains Rifle
FIE .45 cal pistol
Pietta .44 cap and ball pistol
Traditions .50 Deer hunter
Hand made (by me) .36 boys rifle (for the grandkids) sorta plains rifle style.
In progress a Deer Creek Rifle Works .54 cal plains rifle kit
Have three scratch pistol projects on the bench in various stages

Abnout a dozen others that exist only in my dreams, but everything starts with a dream!

Well I don't have any. Still deciding, get the Huntsman barrel for my Handi or get the Sidekick? Probably wait 'til I hear more from ya'll on the Sidekick, heard it would take "Magnum" loads.

I've owned 2 in 58 years... A Brown Bess that came down thru the Family generation after generation... Very long and heavy...I retired her and bought a Huntsman 243/50Cal combo when they first came out... Very short, Light even with the scope, and a heck of alot more accurate.... Just right for the terrain I hunt... MTNMAN

:D  Congrats Wlscott !

Ruffians is it?  I think the word used was hooligans, amoung others.

In all fairness though, I actually think H&R was referring to the Centerfire Rifle or Shotgun group.     Surely not we,us....The Nice Ones. :-D

As a newly appointed moderator on the H&R/NEF Shotgun forum I take offense to that comment...There are no hooligans in the shotgun forum...Must be all those ruffians in the centerfire forum spilling over and ruining the shotgunners good nature.

Hooligans, ruffians.......It all amounts to a pain in the posterier :)

In all seriousness......I think this may be the easiest job I've ever had :-D

I almost bought an Optima last year right before muzzleloader season, but didn't.  I'm glad I didn't cause now I'm wanting that Side Kick pretty bad.

I only have two. Oneis a tc encore 209x50 stainless with brown laminate stock and a tc1.5x5 silver scope. The other is a traditions 209X50 Lightning bolt actin with matte nickle barrel and black synthetic stock. I plan on adding a 12 ga soon. I could get the accesory barrel for my encore but I could buy an H&R cheaper I they'd come ou with one.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
