Here is a glance at the wood

I have a few options. I can travel a good ways with it and use what someone is telling me is a HUGE bandsaw.
I can try and find a 3 inch long blade for my jig saw, but its a fairly cheap jig saw and may or may not be up to the task (i would probably buy 4 blades and use 2 per trail to keep them sharp.
I can use my sawsaw but my concern would be keeping the guard against the wood to make sure my cut is perpendicular.

share some wisdom here.

Also, they are currently 2.5 inch's wide, i can plane them down to 2 inch's if i need to or if you guys think it will look better. I am sure metal strapping will be cheaper. it would be roughly 32 pass's per board through the planer and will increase the chance that i get a little to carried away and cut them down to far.

If i stay w/ 2.5 inch's wide, then the resale value MIGHT be higher because someone could use the cairrage on a much bigger gun and just change the wheels to something larger if they want to use a larger barrel.

Per your wish's i will start using that thread. I have done ALOT of build threads on my other forum (ingunowners.com) but have never done a build thread like you desire. Typically all the questions are asked as you go in their own respective thread. then when its all said and done pictures and descriptions are consolidated into one thread.... that way when you find that thread you can read the first couple posts and see the entire project start to finish w/out having to go through 6 pages of discussion as it goes along. that was my intention here. I dont enjoy build threads where 75 percent of the thread is simple conversation back and forth and alot of "looks good keep em coming"

I know you are fairly new here and it may seem to work different than other forums but there is a lot of merit by keeping the entire project in one post. This is a very large forum that takes many hours sometimes to find a particular post. By consolidating your project in one post it makes it much easier to search for other post and also makes it more enjoyable for us to read yours. For example a year or two from now someone wants to referance your build for ideas for their build, once they find the post its all in one place, not scattered about all over the forum. Also everytime you make a new entry it jumps to the top of the forum, so every one will see it as current as a new post, and each time a person views your post the number (of views) shows up, the higher the number the higher the interest in your topic. I have begin to lose interest in your project because it has fragmented into several post, not because I believe you have a cool cannon build, because it is cool

Indy don't be afraid of taking lots of photo's usually the more the better....

As far as cutting the trails for your cannon I think you will not be pleased with either the results of a zig saw or saws all.... it is too easy to have them angle the cut and with some hard woods I have seen these type of blades follow the grain.... a good band saw is the way to go even if you have to enlist the aid of a wood shop to do it the end result will be worth it... oak is not cheap.... If I were doing these up in N.Y. I would take them to a friends lumber yard he has a band saw with a 2" wide blade.... I might even scew the two boards together and cut both at the same time so they would both be the exactly same ,,,,

I apologize, i just did not realize exactly what was being requested. i still planned on putting the whole build in the build thread, i did not realize i needed to ask my individual questions there as well.

Its been my experience that when you have a thread several pages long full of conversation that alot of people stop checking it for new posts and questions dont get answered. This being the best example. you posted in my new thread because you saw it and clicked on it, yet a question about using a sawzaw or a jig saw, and some concerns about thickness goes unanswered for 12 hours. I was hoping to move forward this evening on the trails but wanted to clarify the answers to those questions first. This thread got 148 views today but i am sure no one answered because of the conversation DD had with me in it, yet the other thread did not increase by a single view today and i am still w/out an answer.

either way i understand this is the way its done here and will do my best to follow yall's rules.
