My go-to hunting load in my .45 Huntsman , 1:56 twist, has always been a Lyman, 291 grain Minie, #.445369, with xx grains of Pyrodex P powder, which gave me 4" groups at 100 yards and have taken many deer. Browsing through my notebook I came upon a load that I did not realize was so good. The load was a 125 grain Nosler JHP pistol bullet, in a Hornady blue sabot (hard to find now) with xx grains of Pyrodex P powder. Resulting groups as follows:
xx grains Pyro P, 1.375" vert. spread , 2.75" hor. spread
xx grains Pyro P, 1.0" vert, 0.125" hor.
xx grains Pyro P, 2.125 vert., 1.75" hor.
xx grains Pyro P, 1.125" vert., 0.5" hor.
All at 100 yards.
This bullet has not problem taking deer at reasonable ranges.
PM me for actual loads.
