Toilet paper rolls in G B mortar?
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:24:38 AM »
It seems they fit perfectly, the mind just reals with the possibility of different rounds of configurations.
Anyone tried this ?
Any cautions ?
Thanks again Dom for the mortar, finally got to touch it off yesterday. But I think 120 grains of FF is a little to much, never saw the golf balls again, any suggestions on a lighter load?

Start at 25 grains and adjust to suit.

Sonny,

As George said, you can always start with a light charge and work to a level that is suitable to the range you're firing.  125 grains is the maximum charge.  That's what the powder chamber will hold. I use a toilet paper cardboard roll for a bore protector when I paint a mortar barrel.  It prevents overspray from entering the bore.  I think it will work as a form for concrete slugs but I would split it and tape it to make the OD smaller so there is a little more windage.

It doesn't matter what color you paint them either. Ever florescent orange doesn't work.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

As cheap as they are (get the bargain "practice" ball bag from Walmart) who cares if you see them again. Of course they may become a projectile again if someone runs them over with a lawnmower.

What fun is it to shoot them if you don't get to see them?  Might as well be shooting blanks. :P

That is what is so great about bowling balls.  And the whistling.

TP rolls vary in size.  If you need more windage go to the grocery with your calipers!  LOL!!

Proper safety equipment for launching a toilet paper roll is leather boots and gloves. Hot gasses can push into the layers of paper at firing. Basically pressurizing it. Once it leaves the tube. It can blow out. Throwing hundreds of pieces of burning toilet paper in all directions. Like a big fire bomb. The boots work well for stomping out all the little fires. The gloves are for the piece of burning toilet paper that the wind blows back into your hair. And sets you're hair on fire. Also you may want to limit the number of witnesses. It's hard to live something like this down.

Spoken from experience?  Sounds like quite the story.
