22 Jet and 50 Alaskan? I would shoot the smaller one first if you want to measure groups. ;)

mo bio,

Could you use the 22 Jet cartridge as a bullet in the 50 AK? ::)    Pretty sweet, let us know how they shoot.  BTW, I am very glad you bought the 50AK because it was very hard for me to resist anything that will punch a 1/2" diameter hole. 8)

heading to alpine next week.

I was at Alpine in Arlington a few weeks ago. They had several rifles that aren't found in other parts of the country. Sako A7 Tecomate and Tikka T3 Big Boar Hunter are a few that stuck in my mind.

You should definitely hit up the Cabelas in Dallas too.

Thanks, Dinny

hoyt,

Not too bad since I started casting my own boolits.  Most of the bigbore straight wall cartridges I use GMDR pistol powder load data so the powder cost ain't so bad.  The two bottleneck guns are cheap because I don't shoot them very much as I mostly like to launch big chunks of lead. 8)  The big holes are nice because I never remember to bring my spotting scope. ;D

Most of my ammo budget is spent feeding my wife and son's black guns and pistols.   The itchy trigger finger gene is very dominant on their side of the family. ;)

Where is the great buckeye shoot going to happen? If I am at my brothers in Lexington it may be doable.  Raining like crazy so no range today. Worked on another load with 600 sp. Pic is with 44 for comparison.

I do like your caliber spread, Ive considered something similar, though lessor for myself (the 22LR/22Mag swap barrel carbine and the 45-70), but the allure of another siren song always seems to lead me astray...........

I like the spread too and thanks.  In December of 2011 I bought my first handi (in the modern era, had one as a kid too).  This pic is just ammo for my H&Rs (missing the 270).  You guys are a bad influence. ;)

I took the 50 AK out last night in the rain for 2 shots. I couldn't help it.  I had to know how the recoil was and how the loads would shoot.  I have it on a handi-grip synthetic thumbhole.  I shot it with the 600 g spire points.  I had it loaded with 34 g RL 7.  Was not bad at all.  It was equivalent to a medium load 45-70.  I like it.  I did have some unburnt powder in the barrel.  I think I will ad some crimp.  I am going to dig the bullet out of the stump after work today if I can find it.

Never seen a .22 Jet. That is pretty cool. I guess that is a handload only round huh? Does it have any performance advantage over a .22 Hornet?

The 22 jet is a necked down 357 mag developed by remington and smith and wesson as a revolver round.  It is also called a 22 centerfire mag. It clocks around 2000 ft/sec out of the revolver.  It uses .222 or .223 diameter bullets but some shoot .224.  It is not as fast as the hornet.

Finally going to the range with my 2 newest handis. I spent the day working up the loads. I just hope the weather holds. l didnt plan on having 2 this far apart in size but  like it very much.
Too Kool!  Too much fun!

I need to get my butt in gear,
and work up some .218 loads as well as break in my .45-70 barrel!  :)
