Just bought a pound of RL7, saw that it seems to work great in the 45/70.  Any other calibers that it shines in?  New powder for me.  Ammo Guide lists a lot of different calibers and loads, just don't know how they perform.

Any experience?

Reloder 7 works in lots of chamberings, Pete and I use it in our "38-55 magnums" too.  ;)

I love it! I use it in 30-30 with light weight bullets. I use it and only it in 45-70. I use it in 223, its the second most accurate powder in my 223.

Hold on to your hat shooting that 45 70 if you are using a top load with that powder and a 400+ grain bullet!  It changes the personality of that gun ;)

For me it is THE powder in my 375 Winchester. I don't even use ANY OTHER powder in it!  ::) :o ;)

I tried it in the Maxi but you cannot get enough in the case... even in the 375WIN its a pretty heavily compressed load I use...

Tim researched and developed the load we're using in the 18 inch 38.55s.  It's a 213 gr. custom bonded bullet with a BC of .380 loaded to .375 level for 2275 fps out of my Handi.  It's not only a whomper, but wonderfully accurate.  Unfortunately, I haven't had a buck in my crosshairs while carrying that rifle.  I did destroy a woodchuck with it at about 250 ;)

I use RL-7 in my 45/70 handi rifle shooting a 400 grain speer jacketed bullet. It shoots like a laser.  The only problem is when sitting at a bench I can only take about 8 shots before my should starts to hurt.

Works great in my 300 Whisper and my 50 Beowulf. I also use it with cast bullets in my 375 Winchester.  One of my favorites. I usually keep several pounds on the shelf.

I have had good luck with it in 7.62x39 with 125 & 150 gr. bullets and reduced recoil 30-06 with 125 gr. bullets mimicking Remington Managed Recoil.

I use it for all my rifle loadings and have found it to be no where near top speed, but excellent in consistency and accuracy.  I load my .223 Rem., 30-30, 30-40 Krag, 30-06, .45-70, 7.5x55 Swiss, and .45 Colt all with the one powder.  So far all have developed sub-moa groups for all but the 30-06, but that's in my buddy's old 1903 springfield and they were only about 1.5".  ;)

I bought a can a long time ago and it didn't work for my intended purpose.  Now that I have a .45-70, I'm looking forward to using it. 

I don't plan to hunt with this rifle.   It's my fun cast bullet shooter but I may try hunting with it, if it tickles my fancy down the road.

Anyway I don't feel like abusing my old shoulder so anybody know how light of a charge you can use with a 405 grain bullet with RE7 and still have reliable and consistent rounds?
