Marlin 9mm Camp
« on: March 18, 2013, 09:29:46 AM »
Picked up a Marlin 9mm Camp rifle 2 weeks @ the gunshow...near mint...perfect bluing/stock.
Came with 4 rd mag, but I found 2 unopened Marlin 12 rd camp magazines on a table...must of been meant to be....I've never seen the actual camp mags at a show.

I had no intention of buying a camp 9mm because I haven't seen one at a show in over 2 yrs.

At that show I passed on one for $425 that had a couple dents in the wood and some freckling in the bluing.

I thought I way over paid on this one @ $600 otd (guy wanted $700) but I actually got an offer for $700 at the show for it.

After research I see on auction sites starting @ $500 with actual bids on them with days left on the bids...saw an ended auction that one went for $800...So I feel a little better.

I have one in 45 ACP. I love it. Bought mine years ago when they first hit the market.

I've already gotten replacement buffers (Blackjack) and have WOLFF 16.5 lb springs on their way.
Read about the factory buffers crumbling to dust or splitting.

Yes, I did the same thing. Replaced the original spring with a 21# and replaced the broken recoil buffer. Also since the stock split I installed a Choate folding stock.

The Choate stock is very sturdy and will not break. I am not sure if the 9mm has the same issue.

Think its mostly the .45 due to recoil...thanks.

 Wow I'm insanely jealous that ya'll have one and I don't :)

I ignored those rifles for all the years they were being produced for flashier models but now really really regret that. At the gunshows I could probably never afford one but I'll be on the lookout around town from now on.  J

That's one I have had for over 20 years... Its a Tasco 4X lighted reticule. It was almost 200$ back then!!  :o   The reticule is a basic 30-30 with a thin top wire almost like a post but not... Kinda a precurser to a todays tacticle scope.

Well a tasco I wouldn't have guessed. Looks great and I undoubtably a fine model made in Japan. Quite a rig you've got.  8)

Great rifles, they are accurate with very mild recoil.  Only drawback is they don't like cst bullets.
Bought one for the wife.

Thank you!

Mine has shot at least a cases worth of my 230TC cast bullet too Cheese!  No one told my Carbine it could not do it!  ::) ::) :o

It is a tommy gun comp on the muzzle. The stocks are shot with Rustolium Bed Coating and then lightly hit with green fleck trunk paint.

I think the camp 9 would have been more popular if Marlin had made different lower mag wells to take other mags than the S&W 59 series.  That was the fall of the Ruger PC 9 as well.  LAPD woudl have orderd thousands of the mif Bill Ruger would have made them take hte Beretta mag to match the duty pistol, Ruger said buy the Ruger pistol instead, and ment it.
If the LAPD had them at the Hollywood shot out we would not have AR's in squad cars now.
I know I would own one of either if it took the Sig mags.   ;D

I agree 100%, thats where the Kel Tec has it all over the others... different mags. The S&W early series was about the worst choice!!

This is my Camp Carbine.
It uses 1911 magazines, very convenient.

Cheese head I like that.
I may have to start looking for one at the next gun show around here.  I like the stock.
I may have to do a combo of yours and cwlongshots and use the folding stock and add the Thompson Cutts Comp and leave the iron sights with a custom non skid paint job.

They are great little rifles DEF grab one of you have the oppertunity! Mine is a 1911/45ACP too. I just chopped off part of the mag shroud. I did not like its look hanging down.

A guy I work with has a 9mm I have put the seed in his head if he ever needs a few hundred dollars, Ill take that Marlin off his hands. I just may get it too as he is not a ;;gun;;guy and last time we spoke he said his wife dosen't want it in the house with all this talk of ''evil assault rifles''...

One of my friends wives said something about Assault rifles and how dangerous they are.  I said you're right, I have ot lock up the ammo for mine other wise they get loaded and just wander down the street shooting this way and that.
She smiled and said point taken.

Lucked out today and got 3 stainless 12 rd S&W mdl 69 mags which also fit in the Camp 9.
Got all 3 for $40

The guy wanted $25 apiece for them but I didn't think they were true S&W mags because I didn't see the traditional S&W logo on them.
So I pointed that out to him and offered $40 for all and we did the deal.
But after I got home I researched them and they ARE S&W mags...just got a little "s" in the lower corner on the right side of the mag.
Went to S&W website and there they were...sold out but were $42 apiece!

OK i'm just sitting here at my behind kicking machine, pulling the starter rope.
I saw a ranch rifle in 45 the other day in a pawn shop and passed on it. It had a 600 dollar tag on it and I thought that was ridiculous.  ::)  go figger!  That and a ruger 44 mag carbine are my "man I need want one" items.

Sorry that as supposed to say camp rifle!  :-[

I have one of the Ruger Deer field carbines wiht the removable mags.  The rifle is neat.  The down side is the 4 round mag.  When I first got mine I brought it out to the range with my M1 Carbine and loaded a 15 round 30 carbine mag and then the 4 round 44 mag.
It was the first time I have ever been confused shooting a gun.  I cna swap from one gun to another like a pump to an auto and I do not try to shuck the auto, I can go from a single trigger to a double trigger SXS and not miss going for the back  trigger on a double.
But with the 99/44 I fired off my 4th round and was ready for the 5th and the gun stopped, I thought I was shooting the 30 carbine.
