Contender .223 accuracy loads
« on: March 18, 2013, 03:36:47 PM »

Recently purchased my first Contender carbine length barrel in .223 and wondered if any of you would like to share some good paper/hunting accuracy loads...
Thanks, Hugh D
P.S. Do you crimp?

I bought one and stuck a 2-7X33 Weaver on mine and at the time the only hunting loads I could find were the Hornady 55grain flex tip.
So I set out to the range with a few boxes and the sand bag to get ready for a Javilina hunt.  I was happy with the groups I was getting at 100 yards on the range and headed out to Az hoping to see a desert pig.
Just stay away from any of the factory FMJ loads.

hmmmmm............ so that's what happens when you try to insert an exel file into the forum thread.

Send me a PM with an email address and I'll email it to you.

Do you know the twist of the barrel?  That would kelp narrow bullet choice.

Blessings,

Paul

I only had a .223 23" carbine barrel for a short while because I bought the rifle for the action. I did try a load of RL15 and a Sierra 53 gr. match bullet and it shot under 3/4"

55 grain Nosler Varmageddon, 20.5 gr H322 works great in my G2 20" custom shop barrel. It is not super fast but very accurate in my rifle. I believe T/C factory 223 barrels are 1 in 12 twist.
