Henry lever 22 mag
« on: March 19, 2013, 07:09:42 AM »
I purchased this Henry 22 mag about a year ago.
They are hard to find in Kentucky.
Checked a gun shop in Corbin, they said they are gone as soon as they hit the shelves.
Was in Lexington at the VA hospital, so I stopped by Sportsmans Warehouse, they had nothing in the shelves in 22 mag, so he went back to check, found one that just came in, still in the box, so I bought it, $376.00 I believe is what I payed
I wanted the octagon barrel  but the only one they had was in rd barrel
Made a butt cuff with cartridge loops, ordered the sling swivel set from Henry, and made the sling from 8 oz veg tan leather along with the butt cuff, used 3 oz for the cartridge loops.
those little cartridge loops were hard for me, never made them that small before.
Teamed it up with a Ruger single six combo and a Heritage RR combo.

The holster is a triple K,
The knife is a six inch Puma bowie.
I made the saddlebags with 3 oz veg tan leather sewn with heavy weight linen thread.
I applied a 1/2 doz coats of Hudson Bay true coat gun stock finish

WELCOME TO GBO!!!

Looks great very nice pics too!! ;)

I too have one and my story mirrors yours to a T! Only I'm in Connecticut. And no Harry's could be found.  Finely one day, almost in desperation, I searched the Internet for any and all gun shops with in first fifty then one hundred miles of me. About a dozen phone calls and I found two magnums both std models like yours. I called every dealer listed on the net, two magnums found. I called that dealer back, put deposit with credit card. Drove right there and bought it!  Paid just under four hundred out the door.

First range trip proved these rifles shoot great!! I shot CCI 40g HPs into a Nicole at fifty yards with open sites. I was elated!!!

I added a dovetail mounted peep from Williams and a Hi Vis front glow worm site. Then I bought two speeDloaders. Great little fast loaders for tube feed rim fires.

I really like my Henry as you do'. I also have that same holster and knife as you!!! LOL. I need a rimfire cartridage belt. My single action is a single-Nine in a Safri land rig. The holster like yours is for my Colt Scout also a 22 magnum.

Bernie is a GOOD MAN!  ;)
Here is some better pics of the peep and the nice wood.

Here is that first few shots with CCI 40g HP's

We share taste in Knives too...  ::) :D

Three nice hand made and two machine made. Not too bad, but any can see the quality differences.

CW I appreciate the pics of the sites and knives.
Me and Bernie go back a few years,
that site is a good idea for the henry 22 mag, precision shooting with the 22 mag will get the job done on just about any game.
that top knife looks like the puma white hunter, I like it.
thats a buck large trapper with the henry.
this is one of my sets, small hatchet/belt ax,buck 119 , 110 and the trapper folder

Yup,
I agree 100%, my brother from another mother... ;) The 22Mag from a stealthy patient hunter will have your freezer full for all your days.  IMHO quite UNDER rated. ;)

I like the Buck knives too!  My 119 is a new one. (I prefer the old steel) but I have a old General that I'm proud of!

I love that old buck, hold onto it.
If I had to live out of my pack with only one rifle, it would be the 22 mag, with a matching revolver caliber.
I can carry enough ammo to last me for years.
and throw in a good buck knife, a man would have it made in the wilderness.

I need to get the 22 version also.
best rifle a man can own.
I would love the octagon, but just hard to find around here
