Remington Mod 11
« on: March 19, 2013, 07:26:45 PM »
Having problems with ejecting spent cases. Shooting mixed brands of plastic cases. Some trap loads, some duck loads. Have checked the schematics and found 2 diffrent pictures. They show a ring that goes on top of the recoil spring or on the bottom, depending on high base or low base. have tried both ends and still get a jam every time. Somebody once said they dont like plastic, only the old paper shells.  Going to be using this as a home defence/bear gun. Any help or idea's?

Had a model 11 years ago and it cycled just fine with plastic hulls.  I would suspect there's some other problem.

I'd suspect a worn or chipped extractor.  I own 2 model 11s and one has had to have the extractor replaced to to wear while the other is still running strong.  I have no idea how many thousand rounds both paper and plastic they both have ingested but it has been substantial.

There is a third spring set up for a cutts compinsator.
Does your gun have a cutts?
My fathers A-5 (same basic design) has a Cutts and it will not work correctly with the spring on light with light loads and the cutts.

The below link shows how the friction rings need to be set for different types of loads.Yes,I would inspect the extractor first. Most Model 11s I encounter need a good going over. They need to be detail cleaned, new action and recoil springs, replace worn or broken parts, new friction rings.
I also make my own recoil buffer out of polyurethane as the old fiber ones are normally shot or gone.New OEM types are still available if you want to go stock.

Going back 40+ years working with a deputy that had a Model 11 in his patrol car.  His buckshot loads where in Remington in plastic cases.  We had a little practice session in the woods and it worked just fine.
