Wichita Mountains
« on: March 20, 2013, 01:37:18 PM »
My son and I went there today and had a really good time.  We were climbing on boulders, finding caves, walking up trails etc.  It was pretty fun.

It was pretty wild though as we were walking down a trail through a bunch of trees and a bison was coming at us from the other way.  He stopped about 10 yards from us and wouldn't move so we walked into the trees about 20 feet and he walked right by us.

I have not been there since after my elk hunt and not sure why as it is close enough.  I need to go more often.

Anyone else been there lately?  If not, I suggest you go.

Recommendation - Go to the visitor center and ask for Randy.  He was a big help and really knows that place well.

I live about 15 miles away and go there at least once a month. My daughter loves the "huge mountain" and talks about it every time she sees it from her seat in the van. The bison are quite impressive, especially to us easterners. ;D

Thanks, Dinny
