jst guessing, but mushroom gu might be referring to the pattern a cut down shotgu produces. then again they might be blowing truffles outta the grond with it ;D

yup,  ive heard it called a mushroom gun also.  if i was a gambling man id bet more people have been killed by the mushrooms that they was a hunting than bears that they were hunting.

There was an article in the Backwoodsman magazine years back on the mushroom gun.

Seems to be it was a single shot 410 or 20 gauge with the stock cut down to about pistol grip carry and the barrel was cut to 18.5 inches long.

Just something to run off coyotes or dogs I guess while foraging mushrooms.

Made one once but from a 12 gauge.  I was good till I shot 3" mag buckshot out of it.  That hurt.

Hey, I live in Kansas, home of the original "big house" (Levenworth Federal Penitentiary) and I have driven by it.   Trust me NO ONE would want to go there.
