Outhouse Gun...
« on: March 23, 2013, 11:02:59 AM »
I'm not permitted to search but remember seeing a thread refering to outhouse guns (short bbl single shots) being called by another name. Can anyone help me out? tom.

Search is disabled for everyone due to bot attacks slowing the forum, use the google search at the bottom of the main index page, keyword canoe, truck or boat gun.

While I checked both of those sites I still don't have the term used describing those guns. I'm sure it is propriotory to this forum. Short barreled single shot shotgun. Might have had side saddle, sling, maybe not.?? tom.

Not shorty, canoe or truck guns. It was something very different. Sorry to be so tedious. tom.

Go back through the other 135 pages and you'll see it sooner or later in the topic line if it's very common.  ;D

Makes me think of the western movies where they nab the guy while he is taking care of business.  Might need something besides a corn cob to throw at them, not to mention varmints that might be taking up residence there.

Maybe it was another name for an outhouse.  Several of the old timers used to call 'em privys.  Maybe it was a privy gun??

Friend who went hunting in Polar bear country said they had a 12 ga. that was mandatory to take when you went to the latrine......apparently, Polar bears are smart enough to lay in wait to ambush you as you go to the latrine.

Mushroom gun?  I hunt mushrooms every spring and I never thought about shooting them.  Doesn't sound very sporting.  ::)

Never heard of a mushroom gun, google doesn't show much either, one reference on Numrich and an article on the Tamer. Kinda funny that the author refers to mushroom guns as a Northwestern American idea, I've lived in the PNW for 65yrs, never heard of such a thing and can't see any mushroom picker needing one, there are no ground snakes anywhere I've picked em, just the 2-legged type!  ;D

Tony

The thread I saw suggested carrying the gun to and from the outhouse for bear protection. tom.

And of a suitable quality that were it to be "soiled" it would break no ones heart.

I'll quit the dance here and name it  "$hithouse gun" describes both location, condition and respect afforded to said weapon

The late Lewis Grizzard said he didn't like to eat mushrooms.  He said they were really toadstools and that frogs and toads went to the bathroom under them when it was raining; except for the big frogs who just went on top of them!!  ;D

The reason I found this site was on another forum they were saying that mushroom guns were on this site and refered to as bear guns or some such term. That is the reason for my inquiry. tom.

around here, it's usually
truck gun or barn gun,
because that's where they'll
spend most of their time.
mine gets tractor gun because
it rides with me. when it
doesn't, it turns into a barn gun.
