New Ruger Gp 100 problems....
« on: March 23, 2013, 12:08:31 PM »
I just got a brand new 6" stainless GP 100 and it is already having problems. I fired 15 rounds of .357 and gave up due to frustration. Here is the nature of the problem. With a  Fully loaded cylinder fire a couple times and the trigger jams at the rearmost position and will not reset, in addition the cylinder is locked up. Have to open cylinder up to free it. This occurred in DA and SA shooting. I tried it with no ammo in it and it dry fires fine. Put ammo in it and jams every time, just to be sure i tried some .38's and the locked the gun up just like the .357's. Any ideas? I made sure the area under ejector star was clean and dry and was using factory ammo. This is a brand new gun, frustrated to say the least...

You called ruger?  Do so and see what they say.

They will do good by you.  The only time I heard of a problem with one ruger  did good.

Sounds like the same problem I had with a 454, SRH a few years ago.  After calling , I shipped it back to them. According to the return invoice ... they replaced the cylinder and various internal parts  ... it worked fine.  Its unfortunate , but every now and again a bad one slips through. If this is your first RUGER ,  don't let this dishearten you.  Over all , Rugers are very good firearms.  Oh , and when you call , they may or may not offer a prepaid shipping label ... if this gun is in fact "new" , I'd ask for one.  They will take care of you.  Good luck

regards , irold

No not my first Ruger, but it sucks that i now have a $640 stainless boat anchor! Yes the gun is in fact brand new. I have fired a total of 15 rounds through it, bought it last friday. Hopefully they can diagnose and correct the issue. Never thought I would get a malfunctioning DA revolver...

Ruger customer service, in my opinion, is second to none. They'll make it right.

Ruger will take care of it. I had a Mini 14 that would not group (imagine that!), sent it back to Ruger and now it shoots fine. They never did say what they did to it...

My first Ruger was a Super Blackhawk 44 mag back in 1986.    Did the same jamming you are talking about.   Shot a full box of factory Winchester White box for sight-in/ practice and on the second box the jamming started.   I sent it right back to Ruger, on their dime, and had it back within two weeks,   never had another problem with it.     Ruger Customer Service has been good to me.    My sixth Ruger,  an American Rifle, in 3006,  had a broken extractor after two boxes of ammo.    Sent it back - returned in 11 days and has been fine ever since.
I'm just tryin' to keep everything in balance, Woodrow. You do more work than you got to, so it's my obligation to do less. (Gus McCrae)

The gun is now with ruger, however here is where it gets weird. Got delivery confirmation via UPS. Called Ruger on Wednesday and the person I spoke to could not even confirm they had the gun because it can take up to two weeks to receive it into their computer system, then she proceeds to tell me it will be 2 to 4 weeks more once the technician has it in his hands. Guess I'm without my gun for at least a month. . .

don't lose heart.
i had one in at a different maker,
and it never got logged in as at
the repair center, even though i
had delivery conformation.
i got it back in a little over a week
and never showed as being at
the service center.
