Bought Ammo Today
« on: March 26, 2013, 02:49:20 PM »
Went to Sportsman's Warehouse in Fairbanks today.  They get shipments in every Monday.  They often don't get to unload them and get things out till Tuesday.  Got a box of .17 hornet, .22 Mag, and 5.7.  When I got home I compared the prices to what I paid last year.  I paid 12.99 for the .22 mag today, and the box on the shelf at home was marked 12.79.  The 5.7 was 25.99 for a box of 50.  Can't say it went up or not since I did not buy that last year.  But I bought some while in Florida and paid 60.00 a box.

They have a shipment of powder and primers coming in Thursday.  I've got plenty of primers, but I'm running low on Retumbo and 748.  Maybe some more will start coming our way soon.

Went to sportsmans in Portland Or today.  They didn't have lots of stuff, but I got a couple of boxes of .45-70. About $44/box, but what are you going to do?

Went to a local ma and pa chainsaw shop today . they started selling firearms and ammo when barry got elected first time. They actually had some stuff, Even AR's and such, pricey though. Did have a good selection of loaded ammo as well,  not that bad on price. even saw some 556 and 308. had some 300 blackout and wisper. A few 22's,  not much in bulk stuff though. I was pleasantly surprised.

Guys,

I went to a huge Dick's in Charlotte, NC last week.  Their ammo shelves were absolutely bare, except for 4 boxes of .30-06 (mixed brands), 1 box of 7 Mag, two boxes of .17 Mag, and the new specialty Turkey shotgun shells for the spring season.  I'm talking at least 24 linear feet of empty shelf space. Bare wood!

I was at the local WM yesterday. None of the common pistol calibers and none of the AR calibers. But they had 300 win mag, 7 mag, 270, 30-30, and a few others. No 22lr to be found, but that's been going on for a while. I was there about a month ago and scored 3 boxes of 22lr, that I took to a neighbor for his kids.

I was told today that at Academy you must go to the service desk to get your ration of pistol calibers......they do not shelve them at the gun area.

I was surprised when I visited my favorite gun shop today. Although there were no small pistol primers there was about ten bricks of large pistol primers at $37.50 each. I'm OK on large pistol primers right now but picked up a brick anyway. Really needed small pistol but thought I might could trade for some later if I can't buy some.

Same price here, but they are rationing you to 300/day.

Try anywhere OTHER than Dicks in Charlotte Manny, they are the worst. Hyatts gun on Wilkerson bvld and Carolina gun on S. Bvld is MUCH better stocked. Throughout all this ammo mania there hasn't been a time that I couldn't go to one of the two of them and get what I need.  8)

  Thanks Johnny,

I was down in Charlotte visiting my son last weekend, and just happened to see the Dicks in a huge shoping mall.     There is zero ammo up here in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, so I was looking to buy just one box of .308.

I'll give him a call and ask him to run over to those two places and take a look.

Charlotte, especially the downtown (what you call Uptown) , is without question the most modern, beautifully built, clean and uncluttered city in America.  You are lucky to live there.  Your NFL stadium is the centerpiece of the urban revival.

Thanks, Mannyrock

I was in Academy in Midland, TX yesterday. I was looking for a scope which they didn't have and checked out the ammo supply while I was there just out of curiosity. Plenty of everything except .223 , 22LR, and 22WMR. I did hear a gentleman ask one of the counter guys if they had 22LR and he said that if they did it would be at the cash register. I have plenty so I didn't bother to ask at the checkout.

I shoot quite a bit of 22LR but started stocking up after the earlier panic when BO was elected. I'm cool on 22 LR for a long time. I also laid in a supply of reloading components so I check availability of shooting supplies just to keep up with what's happening.

I wander by the ammo shelf at the local WallyWorld to kill time while I'm there while the wife is grocery shopping. For three weeks all that was in the whole ammo department was 2 boxes of 300 Rem mag. Last week there was 3 more boxes of big stuff but I didn't check to see what it was.

Well thanks Manny, darned nice of you to say. My mom always said I was an unnappreciative kid :), maybe I still am but I would trade places with you in the beautiful Shenandoah valley IN A HEARTBEAT, if I could. I drive into Charlotte everyday and can't wait to leave the traffic and mass humanity. When I get closer to retirement I'm comin ya'lls way ;D

Tell your son to go to Hyatts on wilkerson bvld, they have every caliber in stock.  Prices are fairly astronomical but I've found I don't mind as much as I thought I would, as opposed to going without. I think those Dicks stores have pretty much folded in the hunting /shooting dept., they have downsized their entire shooting sports displays and quit receiving ammo after sandy hook. Their original founder up in Binghampton N.Y. would roll over in his grave if he knew what his store had become. Dicks was a tiny but very busy shop on an alley street for a long time, shoulda never become a mall store imho, guess his kids were smart in their marketing I guess :D.

Glad ya'll stopped by here for a visit 8)

Went back to Sportsman's looking for a battery pack for my Fox Pro.  They just got an early shipment of powder, some primers, lots of .22 Mag, and .22 shorts.  No Long Rifle ammo.  They also got some ARs, they put them out on the shelf.  Bushmasters for $850.00, collapsable stock, picatinny rail, no sights.  They stopped the drawings to get an AR.  Things are looking up.  Still looking for the .22LR Bulk Packs.

our walmart has powder most days of the week. local sporting store has had primers for over a month now, to the tune of any type and just about any amount. i think people here have bought enough to be stocked for a while so when supplies start replinishing there will be an abundance
