N-ssa Clarification wanted
« on: March 27, 2013, 05:06:02 AM »
First question, I am sure is obvious, but knowing NOTHING about the cannon shoots, reenacting, or the organization... I just don't know.  Would the rev war cannon I am building be allowed in the NSSA events (providing the tube was constructed to their safety requirements?)

The outside of the barrel is full-size, but its a sub caliber bore, so I don't know if it would be considered "full size" or not.  Its also not of the civil war timeframe.

What is the process to get it NSSA certified?  I think it would be nice to have it certified if I ever decide to sell it, or reenact with it.

That's a bunch of  questions you need to ask the N-SSA.

My guess is no since the  N-SSA covers the Civil war and require authentic or authentic replicas.  They are not a reenactors either.  They are competitors.

Here is a link to there website http://www.n-ssa.org/vbforum/

No you might ask Artilleryman about his organization, he is just to the north of you.

There is also a group call the American Artillery Association when you might be able to play. http://www.americanartillery.org/

I was thinking no as well, because it just wouldn't make sense, but this is what the N-ssa stuff reads.

The term “Civil War” applies to any artillery piece whose model antedates April 26, 1865.

The revolutionary war definitely antedates 1865.

We need Rampa room Artillery to chime in on this... as he is a member, I believer early on scale cannon were allowed but they have since moved on to full bore cannon, the only way they might allow a cannon of American revolution pattern to shoot is if the unit could prove the original unit used such a cannon.... if not then I really doubt it would fly...
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

Here I come to save the day!!    Singing loudly.

The gun would be legal as long as it had a full size bore. And was made to correct specs.   Remimber rev war guns were use in the civil war.   Is it a cast gun or turned steel?

It would not qualify then, its sub caliber at 2 1/4 inch bore.  Its cast around a liner, and I can prove that the liner was installed per NSSA specs then I thought it might be possible.  I don't want to do competition but it might be nice to do some reenacting with it, and I don't know what certifications it would need to be allowed in those events, I just assumed NSSA.

it is important to biuld a safe shootable piece that  should be the goal

Most reenactors follow the safety part of the guidelines but they have many guns with sub cal. Bores
