dont mean much here, they wear shorts here in 40 degree weather and flippy floppys. But they do wear a coat/hoodie with the flippy floppies.

Everything is busting out green here, blossoms on the pear trees, fig trees getting first leaves. gonna be 75 here tomorrow. I'll share some spring with ya'll if you share some cool weather with me in July!

never have understood the cold-weather
shorts and sandals with a heavy coat.

Have one sir. Doesn't help with allergies. Cromalin does some good along with Claratin and Zyrtec. Wear a dust mask when outside but still gets to the eyes. Only really effective thing is to stay in the house. I do spend a lot of time wearing a dust mask and over medicating. ear

I get allergies in spring.  Tests show I am allergic to grass, trees, and weeds.....and the specialist said I need to avoid them.  I live in the U.P!  There is nothing but grass, trees and weeds.  Sheech!

i genuinely feel bad for yall.
i still get a bout of the sneezes,
but i don't get sickness from
allergens anymore since i've
been flushing my sinuses this
last couple of years. a week
ago, when i came in from mowing
at the farm, i was so coated in
yellow pollen, my navy blue coveralls
didn't look navy, and my red tractor
was orange. by all rights, i should
have been laid up a week with fever
and sneezes and chills. i believe
regular vitamins and washing the
trash out of my nose has helped
me stay well ( now that i wrote this,
i'll probably wake up sick tomorrow)

4" more snow this weekend and my onions are coming in a week or so.  The frost is still about 2 ft deep in the yard.  Not good.  Typically I can put onions in by mid April.

6" of snow Thurs, 2" Fri and another inch today.....Everything was just getting melted and then the blasted robins came back.  When ever the robins come back we always get 2 snows.  So one more to go.

But I did start some flowers/seed today and next weekend I will start my tomato and pepper plants.  Another week or so, if the snow stays away, I'll start my onions outside....although may have to put a dome over them for a couple weeks.

I have a love/hate relationship with robins.

We had about a foot of snow yesterday.
The belt on the snow-blower is shot so I ended up shoveling, at 12:30 AM everything, including the thirty by thirty parking area, with a shovel.
I was glad I left the parking area till last, as when I was done with that, I had to go do the walking areas over, there was another three inches of new snow after the first shoveling.
Fortunately it quit snowing just before I went in.

I thought this might be the first winter in almost thirty years I would  not have to do it by hand even once.  Ususally the darn thing has a glitch early in the year.
Oh well there is always next year.

One odd thing, when I went out last night, a bird flew by during the snowstorm.

we had round about 4" of rain last week and we're lookin at another 2-3" this week.  Plus the low temps are back down in the mid 30's.  I was hoping to have some work done out in the garden by now, but mother nature has other plans.  My tomatoes are still inside, but they're all 4-6" tall and ready to go out.  I just hope it warms up this weekend and dries out!

Here in the "Snow Belt" region, off the Great Lakes, we don't figure snow is any good until it is at least 2 years old..

feel bad for yall.
my tomatoes that made it are 12-15"
tall now, some i planted as a contingency
are 8" tall. my peppers haven't fared too
well. most puked like the first tomatoes
did,  the others 8" tall. onions are about
18" , squash is just jumping up (we'll see)
and about 4" . no okra up yet. i staggered
planting by about 2 weeks.

i hope all that cold is ok for you. of course,
yall get to laugh here in about 2-3 months.
i can handle that better than the ice :(
good luck

Well, I don't care if there is some snow in my yard yet.  The raised beds are thawed out and so I tilled them up tonight.  Figured all the egg shells, coffee grounds etc that I've tossed in them all winter needed to get worked in.  The onions are planted, about 40-50 of them,  with a clear drop cloth over the top to help keep them a bit warmer.  But I've had the plants for 2 weeks (I get them from Dixon Dale Farms in TX) and figured I should get them in the ground as soon as I could..  You get 50-70 plants for 11.00 shipped.  Last year I bought onion sets locally and they were a few dollars cheaper for about the same amount, but the onions were not nearly as big as the ones from Dixon Dale were.  So This year I will find out if it was just a fluke or if the Dixon Dale onion plants really are that much better.  Plus they have great variety.  Around here you can get white onions or red onions.
