1859 Sharps Question
« on: March 27, 2013, 12:51:36 PM »
Not a BP cartridge rifle but I figured someone here would have some knowledge. Just recently added a new gun to the collection, an original 1859 sharps rifle (not the carbine which was more widley used). I have searched high and low for information and aside from history of Sharps and other really broad info haven't been able to find anything. Curious if anyone has any resources they can point me towards...specifically would like to pin this rifles serial # to a unit in the CW. Tons of info out there on Berdan Sharps but other than that I can't find anything. Gun is New Model 1859 Sharps Rifle, Serial # 402XX.

Good Luck!  You might want to go over to the Shiloh Forum and ask the question.  There are several posters that have Sharps reference books for the originals

The N-SSA board is a good resource for this too.
"Give me a lever long enough, and a place to stand, and I'll break the lever."
