Buffalo Wild Wings sorry after gun-fearing waitress refuses to serve cops  By Joshua Rhett Miller

A Buffalo Wild Wings waitress refused to serve eight Virginia police officers because their guns were in full view in what the apologetic restaurant manager now says was a "misunderstanding."

The plainclothes Prince William County police officers stopped in at the Manassas restaurant on March 20, presumably to dig in to the popular chain's specialty, but never got the chance. An unidentified server told them they would have to put their service guns out of sight before being served. Scott Lupton, general manager of the store, said he heard about the incident from Daryl LaClair, a local man who contacted restaurant representatives afterward. Lupton denied reports that the county's Finest were asked to leave.

“She went to a manager,” Lupton told FoxNews.com. “But nobody was asked to leave. It was a misunderstanding and we tried to apologize for it. I’ll keep apologizing for it as much as I can.”

"I’ll keep apologizing for it as much as I can.”
- Scott Lupton, general manager of Manassas, Va., Buffalo Wild Wings
Lupton said he sent an “apologetic” email to LaClair, who could not be reached for comment early Thursday. Lupton also told the police department he was sorry.
“It was an apologetic letter for the misunderstanding,” he said, referring further questions to a company spokesman.

A Prince William County Police Department spokesman confirmed that the apology had been received, but declined further comment.
“It’s not really a department matter,” the spokesman told FoxNews.com.
A spokeswoman for the Minneapolis-based Buffalo Wild Wings told FoxNews.com law enforcement officers are “always welcome” in its 840 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

“It is the company’s practice to allow credentialed officers to carry guns,” spokeswoman Angie Andresen told FoxNews.com. “We’re working with team members to make sure that everyone knows what the protocol is. They have apologized.”
It isn't the first time in recent months that an overzealous waitress has pulled rank on gun-toting cops. A Denny’s in Illinois made headlines in January when several detectives said they were told they couldn’t carry their guns in the restaurant. Belleville Police Department Chief William Clay later banned his officers from the eatery when on-duty or off-duty while still in uniform, despite assurances from restaurant officials that the incident was a misunderstanding.

Clay also issued a press release that identified the managers on duty and blamed the incident on “political stupidness.”
“This was an insult, a slap in the face to those detectives and to all of the men and women who proudly wear the uniform or badge and serve in law enforcement,” Clay wrote.

So, Buffalo Wild Wings has a no guns policy?  Is this only in Virginia or nationwide?  If so, I won't eat there anymore.

When I see a "NO GUNS" sign I go in and call the manager.  I then tell that manager that since they refuse to let me protect my family and friends in their establishment, I will no longer do business with them.  I will also make sure all my friends know about this "NO GUNS" policy.  I then come home and call the local Radio Station on "Firearms Friday" and report the incident to the public.  We have had several business come back and change their policy, and call in to the radio station to request they be removed from our Black List.  We drove one store out of business.  The radio talk show host, reported his confrontation with the business owner, over her "NO GUNS" policy.  After a month she folded, went out of business.  She refused to change her "no gun" rule right up to the end.

When the new owner took over, first thing he did was take the "NO GUNS" sign down.  He came on the air with the Talk Show Host and told Fairbanks all gun toters were welcome.  Business is back like it used to be.  The woman who went out of business talked about suing over loosing her business.  No attourney in town will talk to her.

I think back to when Sky was small.  I got called in and talked to because he and a little friend chewed their crackers into gun shapes and pretended to shoot each other.  I told the school Principal she was nuts, and left.  Later after we had put him in private school, they had a "Dress like your parents do at work" day.  Sky found a set of his Mom's old fatigues from when we had first gotten married and she was tiny.  They fit him, so he decided to wear them to school.  He then found the old cracked stock off my Remington Nylon 66.  He stuck a piece of 1/2" conduit in the end like a barrel, and carried it to school.  The kids thought it was so cool, he was wearing a military uniform with his name on it, and carrying a gun.  His teachers never said a word.  Shows the difference between Private School and the public school, Common Sense.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

What?
One of my sons is a Policeman and is employed by one of the finest Police departments on the east coast. I know how VERY hard he worked to get that position.( after 6 years of Military service and 4 combat tours) I know how dedicated he is to serving the public. I know how true he is to the oath that he took to "Defend and Serve". I know how much respect he has for his fellow man and for himself.
"finest" ? Yes, he is. He has earned that title.
Are cops of higher moral character ? Well now. That's pretty self explanatory aint it? I mean, if the criminals they encounter were of higher moral character then they wouldn't be criminals now would they ?
Superior ? NO !!
Smarter ? ...see higher moral character.
Better looking ?.....than who ?
What ?..they have been screened by smarter people than you and i and have been found to have certain characteristics that the average person doesn't. Let's not overlook the fact that they also had the courage to make the choice to become a LEO.You think it doesn't take courage ? Ask anyone of them about the sacrifices they had to endure to be who they are. Most Policemen will tell you that the first thing they lose when becoming a Policeman is most everyone that they knew as friends. Only that rare one or two real friends remain. Just like anyone that has the courage to stand up and put on a military uniform. I have that same admiration and respect for anyone that does and has what it take to be a Policeman.
Sadly some will and do go astray. Until then. ...YES, they are the "finest".
Let's not overlook also that far too many people automaticly look down on a person just because they wear the uniform of a Policeman.
I get the sense that you are one of them ?

Wonder how many concealed guns they never even knew were there.  As for asking the police to follow the same rules as the rest of us, maybe that should be turned the other way.

Well, imo this is just pl;ain stupid on both parts.  The waitress is a idiot and the cops should have cuffed her and stuffed her right there for discrimination, tossed her in the car while they enjoyed lunch and then hauled her sorry butt to the station to file federal discrimination charges and to let federal investigators determine whether she discriminated against them or not.  Whats the matter with the cops these days, did they go wozzy or something.  Higher moral character, to which I can easily agree over some of the more liberal leanings of those who could never consider enforcing laws, should not be a quid pro quo to tolerate that sort of stupidity from someone ignorant of the law, which is no excuse.  Let them (the waitress) learn about it from a court appointed lawyer or a federal civil rights investigator while she is cuffed in the police station, and then have the chief put the restaurant off limits to all officers and department personnel, and notify other agencies of the basis for his decision and ask them to follow suit.

It may well have done that stupid waitress a world of good to have been fired on the spot for discrimination and may well have tightened and supported the community relationship with its police.  As for the waitress, stupidity should be painful.

When I see the No Firearms Allowed signs I ask the manager's what steps they've taken to insure criminals obey the signs. The look on their faces is priceless as they sputter gibberish trying to think of a good answer. I then tell them, "Yeah, just as I thought, you can't insure criminals will obey your signs thus you also can't insure my safety if I patronize your buiseness so I, my family, and my friends will do buiseness elsewhere where the owner's actually care about their customers safety!" I don't yell by any means but I do talk loud enough that any other customers within hearing can indeed hear!

When I see no firearms signs ANYWHERE, I don't say anything to ANYONE. I feel they own the business, and have the right to set the rules. Most here that are not happy with these businesses most likely set the rules at their home, and feel they have the right to do so, and I agree. Trying to force arms on a business that doesn't want them on the premises, is just another form of "gun control".
No guns allowed means I'm not welcome there either. But it really isn't any of my business, because it's THE OWNER'S "BUSINESS". Everyone needs to take a chill pill, and go somewhere else to eat, and quit complaining about someone exercising THEIR RIGHTS. ;)

'finest'?

With all due respect to police , it matters little what you think of police ( I happen to take each one as an individual but consider all top notch until they prove themselves not worthy) they are the guys who often find themselves in harms way. They often have to face bad guys on their day off . They must always be alert when some bad guy from their past sees them out and about. So in some respects its not they are better but they are a better target.
Va. has a law that in a city of 100000 or more you cannot carry a gun open or concealed with out a CCW permit.  Before right to carry if your job required it you could . We also have a law that says a store can post a sign saying NO WEAPONS and you can't bring in a gun or other weapon. Police and private investigators ( if gun is concealed ) are exempt .
BWW is IMHO stupid , they had free police protection and threw it away. Of course they were in a very liberal part of the state and common sense is not in abundance up there.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Can anybody imagine a punk seeing several cop cars parked there and knowing they were disarmed?? I don't do business with businesses that insist that I disarm myself before entering. One mall we visit I just ignore the stupidity, thats why it's called concealed. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I don't know about that but it would have been simple common sense and courtesy to identify themselve's as LE when entering. Would have saved everyone a whole lot of hassle. Years back my wife and I were watching tv in our living room about 9pm. We live out in the sticks our closest neighbor half a mile away. Suddenly she said she saw someone outside snooping around with flaslights. Normaly I'd have grabbed a handgun or shotgun and stepped out to investigate as any law enforcement help was at least 30 minutes away. To this day I don't know why I didn't but by not doing so it probably saved my life! I opened the door, stepped outside and was confronted by two men in dark clothing. Both were holding handguns! They asked if I was some fellow I'd never even heard of. Had to show my driver's license to convince them I wasn't. Though I suspected who they were it wasn't untill they turned to leave that I saw the words Sheriff's Department stenciled on the back of their shirts. They never once identified themselve's as LE!  It's not too hard to imagine what would have happened if I had stepped out with a firearm even though I'd have had every right to do so. I doubt I'd be here typing this now! Turns out they were at, obviously, the wrong dang address! Anyhow, back to my point. Even LE needs to remember common sense!

Scary story Spirithawk.  You are very lucky. And the cops were very stupid for not identifying themselves immediately.  I probably would have had a gun on me.  I always do even when at home.

One day a while back I didn't have to go to work until early evening so I was home during the day.  I happened to look out my kitchen window and saw two guys dressed in Carhartt work close, one carrying a pair of binoculars walking threw my back yard.  I didn't see any weapons but went to the front of the house to check the driveway for a vehicle and or other people and there was none.  So I stepped out on the back deck and shouted "Can I help you guys?"  They said they were contracted be the utility company to check the power lines (I have two power poles on the back of my property) and that there truck was parked a little way up the road.  I gently advised them that in this neighborhood it would be wise to knock on the doors and identify themselves and their business before wandering around on peoples property.   We look out for ourselves and our neighbors out here in the country.  ;)
