pre-diabeties update
« on: March 28, 2013, 08:12:27 AM »
Just an update. I don't get tested again until early summer. In the meantime I have lost 12 lbs.(194 to 182) so far and I am doing 20 minutes on a stationary bike and some weight work daily. Now that the weather is finally breaking some I will increase walking also. Just been reducing my food intake, pretty much staying away from taters, reduced bread intake and have increased my veggie intake some but they still suck for the most part. I still hate the exercising but I must admit I feel better overall and can feel that I am developing more strength. So.....will keep at it the best I can. See the urologist next week so I will be interested to see what my BP is although it is always higher there since I know he is going to give me the finger.

Exercise and watching what you eat can really make a difference.  Two years ago, my sugar reading was about 145, and my doctor put me on Metformin.  Really started watching what I ate, and lost 60 lbs.  Now I test my sugar once a week, at it averages 90 - 95.  No longer have to take any meds, and feel alot better.  In the summer I ride my mountain bike on a local trail that goes thru state forest.  Always pack a handgun, and have taken a coyote, spotted some nice bucks, and almost ran over a bear cub.  Great way to exercise.

Just push yourself to continue on the exercise routine. Once you stop its hard to get started again. Not only will exercise help diabetes, it offers many other benefits. Good Luck!

Speaking of getting the finger. My buddy at work went to the doctor and she wanted to check his prostrate, and he told her no, that he has to get more mentally prepared for it, so he had to make another appointment. Of coarse we couldn't let that one go. He got verbally beat up. I think now he wishes he would have just gave in and got the finger. I told him the only time he has to worry is, if his doctor has fingers the size of kielbasa.  ;D

if you drive yourself, don't drive a
manual-shift vehicle with a heavy clutch :'(

Never, never go to a doc that was a football linebacker or the basket ball center in college. :o

Seen my Doctor this morning.  My cholestrol numbers were good, especially since I do not take and cholestrol lowering medications.  But my A1C, (sugar) is too high.  got to work on that.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The key is going to be exercise. Even if you hate it, that's the best thing you can do. Best advice I've ever heard: start slow; never do LESS than you did before. It will take a while--- probably years, but exercise will help control type II Diabetes.
