The wife really wants to move now
« on: March 30, 2013, 09:37:28 AM »
Our son informed us he is moving out after graduation this May.  He will be moving near the campus, since that is where he will be working full time.  I've hunted everything in Alaska I want to hunt, so I'm ready to move as well.  The cold is getting rougher each year.

She applied for five jobs this week in Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.  She is already being considered for a job in Nashville Tennessee, and one at Ft Benning Georgia.  She said since I retired we have done everything I wanted to do, so now it's her turn.  I can not disagree with that.  Plus she wants two horses, an Arab and a Friesian.  For those that don't know, the horse in the movie "The Black Stallion" was an Arab.  Terrence Hill rode a Friesian in the movie Doc West.

We both have always been into horses.  She is still ticked at me for selling my Arab Stallion when we moved to Alaska the first time.  But I did keep the Paso Fino, and a Arab Morgan mix.  We've got five saddles hanging on the balcony rail now, plus a double team set of harness in the garage.  A shed full of horse gear.

I know what you mean about moving. We lived in Anchorage for 18 years. One day I told my wife that I had caught and killed everything I wanted to and I'm tired of the cold so let's get out of here.
We moved back to Missouri and haven't regretted it for a minute.
Our kids still live in Anchorage so we go back to visit. They both are going to leave when they retire.

Well Sourdough, I hate to hear you are gonna leave Alaska. On my bucket list is a trip up there and a call on you. Not sure when that would take place but it is in the bucket! If you leave and I do get to go I'll just have to check with you first and get a to do list. Good luck to ya whatever you and the Mrs. decide. We go to Cades Cove in Tennessee at least one time a year so if ya move to Tenn. I'll call on ya there.

When it's time it's time. It would be good on your health to get to a warmer clime.
I know you will miss the place---but missing it is often easier than living thru it again.
I wish you a welcome back to the lower 48.
Blessings

Good luck to you guys but just be real careful about the job markets down here in the lower 48.
Some of these company's are promising the moon for people to relocate .
People sell everything and take the bait , but once there they find out they were lied to and then
have no other place to go or can't afford another move like that .
Brown noseing in America is at an all time high, and if your wife really knows her stuff and I'm sure
she does. She may become a threat to somebody that will be over her for what try think is their
job. And they will do all they can to make her look bad .
My suggestion is and a lot of people around here would agree. Is to keep your place there for a little
while just to test the waters of anyplace your going too.Rent when you get there first do not put
all your eggs in any basket on someone's word you do not even know .

It is going to be a shock moving from Alaska to the Southeast.  Man, does it get hot around here!  If you have the choice I would go for Tennessee out of the ones you listed.  I was born and lived in Alabama most of my life.  Stayed a few years in Georgia.  I work and travel Tennessee all the time.  There is also no state tax in TN!

Anna:  My wife is a paralegal, and works for the Federal Government.  She has over 15 years seniority.  Her last 4 years in the AF was serving on the staff for AF T-JAG at the Pentagon.  So she knows her job, she helped write the book they use, and everyone knows that.  They are begging her to come back to the Pentagon, but we both don't want to have anything to do with DC again.

We plan to rent our house for a while, since the rental market is so high here and the housing market is not so good.

wareagleguy:  I was born and raised in Tennessee.  My folks still live there.  In fact I just came back from a three month vacation to Tennessee and Florida.  I have been going down there for the last 10 years during the worst part of winter.  Tennessee, Texas, and Florida, do not have a state income tax.

The second of March my brother and I were looking my folks place over.  Dad is in a nursing home, and Mom is not far behind him.  My brother ask when my wife was going to take a job in Nashville, so we could move into the house.  That way I would be there to help out with Mom and Dad.  I have not said anything to my wife, but I have been thinking about that as a possibility.  That would give us time to find the farm we want.

My folks live out in Hendersonville, East of Nashville.  That's where I grew up.  It's grown a lot bigger than when I lived there.

I spent my summers between  a small plot in Davidson county & a farm up by West of Knoxville.  It's been awhile, but Nashville proper sure was expanding.
