European Wild Boar Hunts and Blaser Rifles
« on: March 30, 2013, 11:57:20 AM »
:)  Howdy! I recently watched a few European hog hunts on You Tube. One of the firearms I noticed was a Blaser R8, I believe. However, I could not believe how expensive they are! Anyone have a Blaser rifle and what do you think of it?  Always, Gene

While I don't own one, I did get to visit KDFs shop in Seguin,Tx and meet the owner and his wife. They are a major Importer of them and really like them. They are known as shooters, but their design turns me off. They are very expensive, but there is a lot of Snob Power involved with them. I was told that it was NOT pronounced 'Blazer" but "Blahzer'....ha. They are fast to operate for a bolt gun too. Good luck to you.

For hog hunting  I prefer HK SLB2000 semi automatic 30-06, 12/30-06 combo or a drilling over a bolt action.

Handled one at LL BEANs in Maine...$3,200 as I recall.  Felt wierd to me but the europeans use them allot.  Probably not something that will grace my collection unless it's one of those once in a lifetime deals.

Running game is a great place for a semi for sure! I'd think the Remington 750 in .35 Whelen would be the Cat's meow for that kind of hunting. I think I would do better with a light lever carbine and a peep sight, mainly because that's what I used we when ran deer with hounds as a boy. But a .270 and up semi would be awesome on pigs. I love those wooly haired Europeans  ( hogs;  I had to clarify that as the German girls I saw in '72 Augsburg were pretty wooly themselves on the legs/armpits! wow) lol

If I weren't concerned about loosing brass, my Swiss K31 would be a good gun for this.  It has the fastest to use bolt action I've experienced.  Since brass is a bit hard to come by, I tend to work the action slowly...
