rem 700 30/06?

i'm aquiring a standard 3006 barrel with iron sights and contemplating having it re-bored and chambered to 35 whelen or maybe 338 06. can either be done with this barrel? thanks,  chris

It depends on the couture of the barrel but it would be cheaper to buy a quality new barrel than to have that one rebored.

if it has sights its probably a bdl or adl and should be plenty big enough to be bored to 35. It also should be cheaper then buying a barrel, having it chambered and then finished.

Here is one source for a new barrel. There are several more, some more expensive and some cheaper. If you want a good inexpensive barrel, look to ER Shaw.

With a new barrel, you can get any contour your heart desires. You can still have the old one, unless the old one is no good. If you like you can get it with a barrel nut, and install it yourself. If you go Stainless Steel, no finishing is required, so the cost is $299 + shipping one way. I think it is about $300 to re-bore the old barrel, but you will have it any more and it will be the same contour as the old one.

I have changed out several Savage barrels and I did a short chambered Remington 700 barrel from 222 Remington to 221 Fireball (which I still have). Not too hard to do.
