Further upgrades for the switchbarrel...

I'm really liking the Boyd's stock, so now that that's settled, I'm playing with a few other things.  I mounted sling swivels last night and picked up a nice Mossy Oak leather sling with suede shoulder flap.  I think it compliments the stock well and has heavy duty quick detach sling swivels so it's easy to take off for load development etc.  I also picked up a set of TruGlo aftermarket sights.  Similar to the ones on my inline Traditions, which I love, and I think they will work out well.  Picture shows the V-notch only, but it has a ghost ring too that I will probably play with as well.    Think they will make the dreary opening day a little easier to lock onto my venison supplier next year.

This one is the .45-70 barrel.  I also have 32" BC 45-70, .45 Colt, 58 Cal. Huntsman, 12 ga. 3.5" with screw chokes, .410, .357 (soon to be max), .223 heavy barrel, .223 Superlite, and  .30-30 superlite barrels for it.

Yah, it's one of the contoured .30-30 barrels from a 158 combo.    It's got irons and an ejector, which I still cannot get to be consistent.  lol

Here's the .223 Superlite with the new Ironsighter one piece base and I really like it.  I can still get a clear view of the iron sights for close-up shots.  My only thought is that for my scope the lower rings could have been about 1/4" shorter, but with this one, you could go up to a 50mm or so scope I think and clear the sights.    Definitely a really strong ring set and I like that it comes in a black matte like the BSA scopes.  Less glare is good.

Ya see Tack, some guys are paying attention.  That's good because we ask questions later.

I guess, from what I read, you're still swapping barrels around.  That's gotta be 'cause you're still in your misspent youth.  If The Good Lord's willing, I'll just stand by a while and see what ya do later.....you'll get old and lazy.  Much easier to have them standing by 'n ready to go....Now that you're in your new place and can shoot out the back door, I can't wait til the right critter shows up with the wrong setup handi.  It's gonna be interesting.  Who can move quicker the critter or the tacklebury.?  Geeze, I wish I could be fly on the wall and watch    It's gonna be tight, but I'm bettin' on the critter.

Critter always beat me......but then Im only half-fast. Only the 22M/22LR is a swap anymore and mostly it stays 22M as there are other 22LR's for garden dispatch. Maybe Im unlucky that way, but unless I do some fitting work my frames and barrels dont fit each other well enough, and so be it.
I think I like that TruGlow sight; looking forward to your trials report.

Rofl, I have ALWAYs wanted a switch barrel setup.    The concept of packing one case and being able to hunt whatever I want on a trip is cool to me.  I do have some extra frames and stock sets and keep some of the barrels on those, or the case gets too heavy anyway.  lol  The .357 sits on the wife's frame most of the time, because I have rounds I like better.  For deer, I alternate between the .45-70 and .45 Colt.  I love both of those barrels.  The .223 is coming out more and more and with the superlite, I see that trend continuing.  This summer going to be reworking the chamber one more time to get the .30-30 to eject consistently, then it goes under the chamber bore for a 30-40 to see if it'll clean up the issues.  All in all though, I feel pretty blessed, because all the barrels I have put on my frames fit nearly perfectly. 
 
The forearm screw is a 1/4-20 thumbscrew, but pretty low profile.  It's smooth and looks nice, but can be a little hard to get to loosen up without slipping.  I'm thinking of looking for a knurled one of similar height.  I can swap barrels though without having to find a screw driver and I'm getting pretty quick...    Prolly not as quick as Quick though.

You could crossdrill the head for a 'break pin' that could hang on your keyring.

looks real handy i have one on mine i just squeeze the forearm against the barrel it comes loose easy. you might  trying filing some grooves in the head to grip better.

Actually, that's my daughters hand.  lol  I had her hold it for me.  Figured she makes a much better hand model.  Here's what my mitt looks like.
