Anyone else sick of all the NRA spam and junk mail?
« on: April 04, 2013, 05:20:49 PM »
I get more from them then any five others combined.  All junk mail offers.

Really ticked me off when they sent the wife a DVD with to have to send back or pay for that we did NOT request.

If the law hasn't changed, that's illegal.

I just throw all the unwanted stuff in the trash can.  ;D much of it unopened. Usually torn into a couple pieces. I'm a NRA life member, they tried calling me at home soon after I bought life. I told them never to call me at my home. They have never called again.

Junk mail both snail & electronic is a fact of life in this day. Just deal with it. Think delete, delete. And file 13.  ;D

Just call or email them and tell them to stop sending it and they will.

How I wish it was that easy to stop all the rest of the junk I get from companies I've never done business with or in some cases never even heard of.

Pretty much how it worked for me.  ???

I only put up with it because they are the big dog in the fight for keeping our guns and 2ND Amendment rights. But I have noticed they tend to not do much good in the states that want to pass anti laws. Example NY Ca., Co. and many I can't think of at this moment

To reiterate: If you call them and ask them to stop sending it, they will.

Part of my frustration was with renewal notices. (This goes beyond the NRA to almost every magazine subscription I've ever had.)  6-8 months before expiration, they will start sending out these notices.  Instead of spending it on postage, I'd prefer they spent it on something that might be useful to their members.
Just my Awf Hand comments...

Really...   Your that tweaked out over junk mail?   The country is on the verge of financial ruin,  N. Korea could declare war on us at any moment, Our government is run by a bunch of money grubbing, power hungry, clowns who are trying their damdest to disarm us all and shred the Constitution and Bill of Rights so that they can turn us all into serfs.  And you're fussing about junk mail from an organization that is our best hope of holding on to any what little rights and freedom we have left.

Just throw it away!  Is it that difficult?  Or like others have suggested (every time this subject comes up I might ad) just contact them and asked to have yourself removed from the mailing list.

I agree with your first sentence, on both counts.  As for "not doing much in individual states", perhaps you can check again.  The NRA is working with and financing the NY State rifle & pistol club in their various lawsuits.  More recently, the NRA has lodged a suit against Gov "Adolph" Cuomo, on a personal level..

I would like to see them do some thing like TV adds to  help educate the people that just take what the talking heads say on TV as the truth. They just seem to keep telling me  and other NRA members what we are already  aware of and the uninformed don't want to hear it from me I am nobody. Some well written adds could do a lot of good to dispel all the misinformation.
As for the state level I started to write letters to every person I could 3 day after the school incident. I even wrote the NRA and did not even get a reply. They did call 8:30 the night of the vote by then all the calls I made were wasted as the Dictator had done his damage and they had lost a months advance notice.
Getting off subject just wanted to let you know I have been involved.

i was a member for awhile. i didnt renew. i did not know that you could get off the mailing list at the time, i do now.

the reason i dropped my membership was because there was no way my membership fee could possibly pay for all the paper they were sending me.i felt bad about costing them so much money in paper and did not renew the membership hopeing it would save them some cash to be used elsewhere.

I don't donate every time they ask..but as gun owners, we ought to donate now and then..  If we don't and those long before us didn't..we likely wouldn't BE gun owners!

I just always feel bad because they spend more on paper, printing and postage than my yearly membership costs i think. I don't mind them asking for money as they're the only big voice united that we really have.  J

It's very likely that all the major national television networks refuse to sell any advertising time to the NRA.  The only ads/info-mercial messages I have ever heard by the NRA have been on PBS radio.

Sometimes the NRA must feel like the well meaning guy who gets badly gored by a whitetail buck he is trying to free from being entangled in a barb wire fence.. ;) :D

I think you can get everything via the internet now if you're worried about the mailing cost. Junk mail from them, legislation alerts, and the magazine of your choice.

Be counted now and gripe about what they are doing wrong or don't and eventually they'll be gone and you can gripe about that instead.

If you don't want the mailings let them know and it will stop.  When you signed up there was a box to check if you did not want the mailings and appearantly you did not check it, so you asked for the mailings.

Like someone else said they are the BIG DOG in the fight, and they have no other way to get the word out.  Liberal media won't sell them time or have anything to do with them.  PBS and I believe the Outdoor Channel, and the Discovery Channel (Tales Of The Gun) are the only ones that will.  PBS is afraid of being charged with discrimination so they will accept NRA things.

Last word I had, a couple of weeks ago, the NRA was having over 7,000 new members sign up a day.  At a recent Friends of the NRA a young GI came in and signed up both his twin boys for life membership.  Another one signed up himself and his wife as life members.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Me too. My basic dues are about all I can possibly afford to give them and they waste far more than that on junk mailings. I totally understand that they do need money to continue to do any good but I suspect the fund raising organization that the NRA employs gets most of the money they raise.
And here in Colorado "Gun Owners of America" has been more involved it keeping us informed and aware than has the NRA.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

I welcome it, not that I get that much but at least what I get pretty much keeps me informed on the matters of gun controll and I know that it is mostly the truth.
What you hear on TV through the media is so full of hog wash that you really can't believe much of what is said.
I can't be in DC to fight for my rights so groups like the NRA, Gun Owners of America and such are our only hope of getting our voice heard in this mess we call government.
I am as high in the NRA as I can get without holding an office and am glad to do my part to preserve our U.S. CONSTITUTION and our BILL OF RIGHTS.
To me, anything less by a gun enthusiast is foolish.
