The gold dollars??
« on: April 11, 2013, 03:05:04 PM »
Patty has been getting a few at a time for years. She heard where the new ones don't have IN GOD WE TRUST on them so we looked. She showed me some from 2003 and it was there, then some newer ones and I could NOT find it. Really ticks me off. POWDERMAN.  Angry Angry

If you can't find "In God We Trust" on either face of the coin; look on the rim. The date and "E Pluribus Unum" will also be on the rim. The letters are real small.

49 ER. NO, I didn't look there, but I reckon that would be a good place to hide God. Other than hiding Gods name what other possible reason could there be for putting it someplace that nobody would look?? Thank a liberal today. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

You do know those things are not really gold right? Like our paper money the metal content of them is not worth even a small fraction of face value.

I call 'em yellow dollars or funny money. I give 'em as tips in restaurants and use them at flea markets.

So the price of Gold dropped almost 8 % recently. Seem like a real smart move to buy.

The reason for  putting "In God We Trust" on the rim instead of the face is that the rim will wear away quicker than the face.  Wonder who came up with that idea ???

Notice that the print ads for the coins says they are beautiful "gold clad" coins.  Not gold coins.  The amount of gold that is electronically bonded to them is son incredibly thin that they don't even qualify as gold "plated" coins.  They are worthless trinkets, with zero gold value since the tiny amount of gold could never be removed and recovered as pure gold.   These might make a nice good luck piece for a youngster, but other than that I can't understand why anyone would ever buy one.     Now that silver has dropped to $25 an ounce, a silver dollar makes a nicer good luck piece.

Here's a short stack of these coins which shows the print around the edges.

YES, we know they aren't gold, but it gives Patty pleasure to collect them. She thinks they are pretty. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

This is not the first US coin to have the motto on the rim.  I really don't think in this case their was collusion on the part of the mint.  Many of these coins will not see circulation much anyway.
