Remington Staying In New York. Boycott to Follow?    Robert Farago
April 10, 2013

“Remington Arms will be staying in the Mohawk Valley for the foreseeable future,” wham1180.com reports. “Two days after sources say Remington Officials met with three State Senators and three Assembly, U.S. Congressman Richard Hanna announced that the Pentagon would be awarding Remington an $80 million contract. In the meeting, sources say, Remington told the State lawmakers that they were moving forward with a $20 million upgrade to their plant that employs 1,200 people. Hanna said that the contract calls for Remington to make more than 5,000 sniper rifles and millions of rounds over the next 10 years for the U.S. Special Operations Command.” Spock! Analysis! Well Captain . . .

During the Sandy Hook spree killing, Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster AR-15. Bushmaster is part of the Freedom Group, a farrago of gun and ammo-related companies assembled by Cerberus Capital Management. Which also includes Remington.

After Newtown, the California State Teachers’ Retirement System informed Cerberus that it was “reviewing” its $751.4m portfolio with the private investment firm— unless the fund dumped the Freedom Group. So Cerberus put the Freedom Group, including Remington, up for sale. No word yet on who or when but . . .

Cerberus is thinking short-term; it’s pump and dump time. (The original strategy that didn’t pan out.) Spending millions moving Remington out of New York is so not part of the plan. Sucking on the taxpayer tit is. In fact, one wonders what New York offered Remington in terms of incentives and tax abatements to keep the manufacturer in-state — despite the fact that the parent company makes evil assault rifles that can no longer be sold in New York.

Yes, there is that. Chances are firearms consumers, fed-up with the Empire State’s hugely unconstitutional SAFE Act, will now boycot Remington products, if they haven’t done so already. Not that it matters to Remington much. The clock is ticking for the great off-loading, they’ve got an $80m contract in the bank, their existing inventory has been completely depleted and Cerberus’s other investments are doing well. Life is good. But this will catch up with them eventually.

  • IF ONLY I COULD GO BACK-I WOULD BE A MOUNTAIN MAN!
I don't buy new Remington products much anyway so it won't be that hard to boycott them.
I have not bought a new Handi Rifle in over a year now and at the present I am dumping most of the ones I don't need.
Never used much Remington ammo so no real problem there.
Don't own but one Marlin that was my Dad's first and only rifle.
Not into the black rifles so no dollars from me will be lost there either.

I can live with that.

should we also quit buying S&W products ? Look at their gun laws and what they send to congress ?
More serious though if we boycott the companies that supply our guns and ammo are we not self inflicting gun control sort of on ourselves ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

There are plenty of choices besides Remington and S&W. I boycotted S&W years ago when they added the "Hillary Hole" to their revolvers. We should only do business with gun companies who don't sell us out. I will have no problem boycotting Remington. Smaller gun companies are always better to deal with.

I still buy S&W REVOLVERS.
THE OLD ONES!
I have no S&W's with the hilery hole .And have no intrest in ever buying one.
The way I look at it.
If you let one company fail because you don't like how they run it.
Another one will rise up to fill the void.
Look at the Uberti SAA revolvers.
Colt quality dropped and the prices rose so much that they made Uberti a hugh sucess .

  • Remember the Starfish......
Looks like a winning strategy. I was worried that Soros and Blumberg might buy the companies and just shut them down. They were even better- they buy the companies, and make US pay for them, and Unca Sugar absorbs all the product we pay for, while using it to control US. Neatest trick since your Daddy made you go pick out the switch he was going to whup you with. Just where do you think the materials to produce ammo is going to go to? You think there will be some small upstart company suddenly able to access affordable supplies of material? To use patents? Get the necessary financing and licenses?
The gunmakers are NOT our friends..... they are business men. I find this a bit troubling. ??? >:(

There are no quality boltguns or pump shotguns besides Remingtons but I won't ever buy another new one.
