Made it to Louisiana from Hawaii
« on: April 12, 2013, 03:20:43 PM »
I had the movers drop it off I in the back.
I believe it will look awesome over looking the pond.
I place pressure treated lumber underneath it IOT get it off of the ground...

Now I need to find a job so that I can afford to build a carriage for it.  Seems like the carriage is the expensive part of the equation.

So tell us more about it. What is it? What's the bore size? How old? What's its history? What was it doing in Hawaii? Do you intend to shoot it once you've built a carriage? What part of Louisiana are you in, I'm in Thibodaux.  :)

Location Slidell Louisiana.

The background on the tube is located in this thread

 http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,269644.0.html
So the consensus is its a Bailey and Pegg trunnioned Carronade.
I know it's history since 1906, however; I have no information on it prior to that, with the exception it came off of a German Ship.

The previous owner said her father received it from a German ship in 1906.  She got it from her parents in 1952.

I just measured the bore.... Sure is good to be back in the swamp with my tools.
Bore is 3.75" at the muzzle  so its a 6 pounder.
I do not intend to shoot this tube, its iron, its old and IMO the chance of destroying something old and cool is too great.  Same reason I haven't removed the silver paint yet, I want to do no harm.

Someday I'll post about the previous owners....

Looks like it is still in good shape, typical insurance gun from a time when insurance companys required merchant ships to protect their cargo and crew from pirates..... they could use some of these off of Africa still today.....
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!
