Gluing wood to rynite stock
« on: April 14, 2013, 02:48:05 PM »
I'm looking to modify my Contender rynite stock. I need to glue / bond wood to the plastic.
Anybody done this?
Wondering what the best glue to use is. I know gluing anything to plastic is challenging at best.
I've got devcon bedding epoxy, west system epoxy, a few 5 minute type epoxies, JB Weld and PC 7 epoxies.

Thanks.

I have glued to synthetic stocks but not specifically rynite.. The most important issue is cleaning the plastic material. If any mold release or plastcizer remains the glue won't bond..then roughen the surface to give the glue a mechanical bond. I used Devcon 5 ton epoxy.

usually the rynite has some coating on it from the mold. I would use anything like soap and water but not a solvent as you would not know before how it would react with the plastic. Then sandpaper the area and use a long setting epoxy. usually the longer setting ones have better holding strength. Frank

I ended up using Devcon epoxy, the black metal stuff. I sanded the rynite, cleaned well with alcohol and acetone, and it has held up well so far.......to the stout recoil of the 45 70
