Traded for a shotty
« on: April 14, 2013, 03:52:09 PM »
Made a trade deal for a 26" mod 20ga NJ prefix today.  I'm extremely happy with the deal and I feel the other guy was glad to get some 22LR.  Case color isn't spectacular, but much better looking than standard black.  So here's what I found out when I got it home ...  the barrel doesn't fit (little loose) my SB2 frame.  That and there isn't the last digits of the serial number on the lug.  It locks up tight though.  Hope to put a few rounds through it this week to test where it throws a pattern.  Eventually it may become a 20" with interchangeable chokes.

Any idea on why the lug wasn't marked?

I have a couple barrels that aren't marked with the last few digits of the frame serial number, made on Friday afternoon maybe? ...It happens.  ;D

Just wondered if there may have been more to it.  It is going to be my loafing gun when I get time to "get away" for a bit of relaxation.  Now to complete my want list I need a .357, 30-30, and a Sportster.  Simply due to ammo selection in stores, I may try out the '06 instead of the 30-30.

redleg,

does your 12ga barrel have a reinforcing plate around the foreend stud?  I bought a 223/12ga combo gun awhile back and the 12ga barrel didn't have  the last 3 digits of the serial number or the backing plate.  Turns out the barrel was much older (pre 86 manufacture) than the receiver it was installed on.   I have since noticed the lugs on these older barrels have a finer pitch thread than the HR1871 barrel studs and usually have slothead screws & not philips.

BB, it has the same style stud as my .223 barrel on the CBA receiver does.  It locks up tight, so I'm not worried about it.  I was just curious.
