Hi All,
   Anyone have any experience with the current Savage 111 type detachable box magazines. Seems there's a plastic spring on the front of them? Are they secure, or are they prone to coming lose or breaking?

Granted, it's not a milspec gun, but was watching a vid on it, seemed kind of a weak design to me. Am I better off with the floorplate model?

Oh, can the box mag be loaded from the top while it's in the gun?

I have one of the new centerfeed dbm model 16 trophy hunters..... I think thats what its called anyway.  I probably only have about 75 rounds through it. So far the plastic spring on the mag looks fine. It does look questionable, like it might not hold up over the long haul. Time will tell though. One thing that bothers me about it already is that it does not like to single feed at the bench at all. Truly a roll of the dice in that department. My old  centerfeed dbm tikka fed great one at time through the ejection port while sitting at the bench.

I have several Savage rifles and most have the DBM.  I have not had any kind of failure of any kind.  There is a issue that you need to be aware. You need to make sure you get a solid connection when you snap it in the gun.  If you don't the back "hanger" part of the mag will pop loose.  I found if you put the DBM with it angled up from the back in and make a good hard push and hear a solid click you should be fine.
