45 ACP to 460 Rowland
« on: April 17, 2013, 03:04:19 AM »
I have a AR45 with a Oly upper that I would like to ream out to 460 Rowland. Is that something I can do with a 45 acp reamer? I can strip it down to the barrel and I do have a cylinder honer to clean it up. Please give me some advise? Thanks!

Yes, you can rechamber a 45ACP to 460Roland.  The only difference between the two cases is the length, with the Roland being .77" longer than the ACP.  Having said this, I don't know if your reamer will do this or whether the Roland will fit your magazine.  If this change is doable I think this would be an awesome set-up.

The 460 Rowland is designed to replace the 45 ACP for those who wanted the power of a .44 mag out of a 1911 and still use the original magazine. In my case I wanted a hotter 45 ACP and still use the original M3A1 30 round Grease gun Magazine in my AR-15 platform (AR-45).
I never used a reamer before so I might need a little help on using one. Since the chamber is cut for 45 ACP do I pick up any 45 ACP reamer and cut out another .77 or cut out enough so that a "go-no go" fits? Do I need to remove the barrel from the upper receiver before I start cutting? How about a alignment tool? is one needed to align the reamer to the barrel? Is there a "go, no-go" gauge for the 460 Rowland to check head spacing?                              Thanks

I have no experience with this re-chamber so can't help all that much but the folks at 4D Reamer rental can help.. Give them a call!
