Bass Pro empty shelves
« on: April 17, 2013, 03:41:37 PM »
Stopped at Bass Pro (Denver) on the way home.  Clerk was talking to another customer, while standing by the empty .22 shelves.  Said they got in $80,000 of stuff, and sold it by 11.  I don't know if all the 80 was ammo, or the whole truck load.  No .22s in the lot, they limit everything to 2 boxes and draw numbers for those there.  No primers, no bullets, no black, they did have some 2400, Blue Dot, 4895, and 748 behind the counter. for $30 per.  I didn't bite on those, but maybe should have.  The former powder and bullet shelves are taken over by muzzle loading stuff, there was a bit of odd brass still hanging.  Looks like they are not expectding much reloading stock any time soon.  Wish I had a way to not work so I could hang around the door waiting for the truck.  A BB gun is looking better every day with a backstop that will save the "ammo".
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

Blue dot makes good heavy shotgun loads, I use it with my #4 buck load. It can also be used for pistol loads. 4895 loads most rifle cals. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I would at least pick up the 4895 personally.

Feel lucky about yer Bass Pro Shop. Ours has very little reloading or ammo. You can put their entire stock in the front seat of a car.......easily.

Blue Dot is also an excellent cast bullet powder in straight wall cases, I use it in 444 and 500 S&W. The 440 gr Lee and 20gr of Blue Dot IS my load for the 500, duplicates a 50/70 or just a little better (1320 fps) and just over 1" @ 75 yards. A lot of deer fell to that.

Thanks for sharing the Blue Dot in 500 recipe. That's the one powder I seem to have plenty of.

Stock comes in at Sportsman's Warehouse here in Fairbanks on Tuesday.  I stopped in and was told by a friend that they would not get to the ammo until after closing that day.  So I was there at opening Wednesday morning.  I was third in line to get ammo.  They had Winchester .22 LR in bricks.  They had the entire counter against the rear wall of Customer Service full of ammo.  Counter is about 15 to 18 feet long.  Full of Pistol and Rifle ammo, stacked up 2 feet high.  I ask for two bricks, since there is three of us going out using the .22s.  Limited to one brick, so I got one.  I passed on the .223 since I am good with that, and everything else I need.  After buying that one brick of ammo I turned around and there was over 15 people in line behind me.  I went back to the gun counter to place a scope on Lay-A-Way.  While there a guy was buying an AR, and mentioned he needed to get some .223 and .22LR as he went to the front to pay for the gun.  I advised him to go to Customer Service while he was waiting for the back ground check.  He took off for the front.  He was back in a few minutes with one box of .223.  He said he got the last box of .223 and they were out of .22LR.  So in less than 10 minutes all the .22LR ammo was gone.  When I went back to Customer Service to pay for my Lay-A-Way there was only about five boxes of ammo left, all 40 S&W.

As for primers, they can only get CCI primers.  They don't put them out on the shelf, they are kept behind the counter.  They will only sell you one box of 1,000 at a time.  Powder, they just can't get powder, the shelves are bare.  There is some factory ammo on the shelves, the odd ball stuff, or stuff most people don't want.

They did get in a bunch of Black Rifles.  They had 10 in the racks and more in the back.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
