Cabella's Raises Prices on Blue Ridge?

:( I just got off line with Cabella's and found out they raised the price of that .32 flinter by $50.00, I checked auction arms and didn't see any .32 flinters for sale, saw a lot of inlines cheap for those so inclined. Bass Pro Shops shows a Crockett .32, but doesn't say whether they have it in flintlock. Traditions has the Shenandoah in flintlock, but only in .36, just might go up to a 36 for my squirrel gun, sure was pretty looking as far as the picture goes. Is that the one you have King? Any suggestions on other purveyors of fine small bore flinters? RR

well you could always take the bollster out and replace it with a touch-hole liner then get a replacement flint lock ...but all of that would cost more
than $50.00

:D RR Mine has the 43 inch bbl,and its not the shanendoah model,which has the shorter bbl.(33")  I have also thier penn. rifle but that is in .50,actually I have two of them.one flint,the other is caplock.    The Crocket rifle is a good one,and I think its made by Traditions.  I dont think they have that one in flint tho.  Haong onna sec.,will check cataloge.nope,no crocket in flint that I can see...That longtom .32 flinter is a PEDERSOLI.and if I remember correctly I got it out of NAVY ARMS about 10 yrs ago along with a couple other toys.  You might check with NAVY ARMS,and see if they have anymore,or can set ya up with who is retailing them.  There are a lot of makers out there and the various companies are stamping thier name on em,.  If the one that is in CABALAS is a .32 flinter by PEDERSOLI,you wont go wrong buying it.,  I probably should ask how much they want fer it first.  King :oops:

:D   RR.  I just checked the rifle again,it is a pedersoli,and it was imported by NAVY ARMS.  This one has the 43 inch bbl on it.  The crockett is manufactured by TRADITIONS,and comes in caplock only from what I can see.  I just pulled a picture of that SHANANDOAH rifle and it looks kinda nice in that .36 cal.  I have the crockett also.  Hope I dont get confused again tonight.  Now I will have to get the little .36 so I can cunfuse that one too.  King

:D RR  Im going to bed after this fer sure.  I just pulled the GUN DIGEST,and looked at that little CABALAS flinter in the BLUE RIDGERIFLE.    That thing looks like it might shoot pretty good and its got good bbl length so it should "hang" real well.  They are showing 399 bucks in here so it is actually 450 fer it now.  Its up to you,but I would contact DIXIE,and see what they have.  I do know that they have some NAVY ARMS FLINTLOCKS,and they might have the one that you are looking for.  Problem is I sure like the looks of that little rifle in cabalas.  Ats it,Im going to bed before you guys get me to deminish my bank account some more.    King

i just got a flyer from Dixie with an order I had placed. The Pedersoli flint is priced at $465 and the percussion at $440 but nothing smaller than a .36 is listed.

Well You folks helped me solve another dilemna, I got a hold of some pretty nice folks at Dixie Gun Works, and told 'em what I was looking for. I had to get it in a kit, but I only paid $324.00 including shipping. Here's what I got: Pedersoli in .32, flintlock, 1:48 32" barrel, which I'll brown, walnut stock which I'll oil finish, has a brass nose cap, and brass curved butt plate. I was told it was level 1 skill to put it together, mostly finishing the wood and the metal, most of the inletting is allready done. I've been doing woodworking for a hobby for more years than I care to remember, and have put some really cheap kits together including an old Markwell Kentucky in .45. They all came out looking good and I still have the Kentucky .45, and a CVA  Kentucky pistol, not to mention kits I assembled for friends. So i'll have an element of pride knowing I built it my way. Thanks again, if run into a burr, I'll give ya all a holler. RR

Crow, On Cabellas web site they showed the rifle to be 449.99, You probably ordered out of their shooting  catalogue. I ordered some other stuff from Cabellas, flints, .32 short starter, and their fringed suede leather gun case, and they went according to their catalogue as they didn't get  the new one out yet. Had I known that, I would have probably went with the BR, I think we'll both be very happy keep us posted on how yours shoots, and I'll do the same when I finally finish it. Any who I think I'm gonna be happy with that Kentucky I got from Dixie. Finally got er down to 220 grit. Fredj, mentioned using alcohol to bring out the grain and steel wool, never tried that, but on other stocls I've refinished, I use steam to bring the grain up, then 220 grit, followed by the 0000 steel wool, and then the oil finish. RR,

   Better watch out, that gun building bug might bite.  Got me about 14 years ago, been doing it ever since.  Couldn't afford to buy what I wanted, so started to build.  Now, some that I build, cost a small fortune for just the parts!  Right now I'll in the middle of building a 38cal rifle with a cherry stock blank.  The barrel was off an old Pedersoli that someone ruined trying to pull the breach plug without first pulling the bolester.  I had to cut the end of the barrel off and rethread/rebreach.  I plan on using it for squirrel hunting.  I noticed a few years ago that small calibers(32's) were getting harder to buy.  Most manufactors/distributors don't want to get "stuck" sitting on small calibers, so they push 45, 50, and 54cals.  Good luck and have fun building.
