Just the usual scenario for my turkey huntin, except I'm using dekes this year, a hen in the mating position and a Jake with a real turkey tail fan I made from a past kill, start hunting about 9am, find a likely place to set up, in this case the intersection of a couple 100yr old grown over logging roads on gated timber company land, sat the dekes up, got into position about 30yds away, made a few yelps on a Dale Rohm box call, 5 minutes later I notice something white moving thru the underbrush behind the dekes, a few seconds later this white headed tom comes into view, soon as he see my dekes he goes into full strut to within a couple feet of the dekes, I didn't want him to get in line with the dekes or tear my jake up, so I put him down with the 1½oz load of #7 Heavyweight from the 20ga TDC, all that remained of the hunt was the long pack out and the story to tell my huntin partner when we met back at the rig parked at the gate a mile away.

Congrats. Neighbor here got a turkey and only likes the breast, so I cooked up a couple hind quarters today and was good.

Left overs going into some Turkey Leek and Potato soup tomorrow.

That's what happens to the hind quarters on all of mine, they end up in the crock pot!

Good shootin' Tim! Wild turkey is one of the funnest to hunt and tastiest game animals out there.I have to wait until May 3rd for myself but this weekend is youth weekend so I can take my 10 year old son out for his 1st turkey hunt.

The state of Washington and the NWTF first planted turkey here in 1963, and there were huntable numbers within 10yrs or so, had been seeing them in the woods when deer and elk hunting for many years, yet I still never started hunting them until 1994, kicked myself for not starting earlier!

So git started, you won't be disappointed.

I'm another who has never hunted them. Seen them in the woods while deer hunting in our local game management area but since I starting hunting a lease I haven't seen a one. I guess that's my hold up. I never see them in the area I could hunt them. Good bird BTW.

Been workin on a couple tough birds for the last 3 trips, one has gone into a fenced no hunting area and won't come out or can't find his way thru the 5-wire fence, so I got a plan with a couple struttin jake dekes and all our hen dekes set up in an adjacent clearing to get him fired up and fly over the fence!

Was goin today, but Jack had home electric problems and couldn't go, so we'll go tomorrow or Friday.

Beautiful turkeys you got out there! I have a 20ga I hope to get ready for turkeys, I will look into those shells you used, what choke constriction are you using and do you have a pattern picture of it? Thanks .DT

Tim, they have a rebate good on these in case you missed it. My shop only had the 1 1/8oz 2 3/4" shells...

Thanks, but I already sent all of rebate apps in, last batch and this latest, just waiting for the second rebate now.

Not sure, but I think I may have sent one in a couple years ago as well, I always look for rebates, never been stiffed on one yet regardless what many claim happens, I think most don't follow the rules to the letter and never get em, then blame the rebate provider.
