handi firing pin

hi im new to the forum did the intro on the other thread wondering if someone can point me in the right direction please i was showing a mate of mine the other night how good my handi 22hornet was and got him to cock it and feel how nice the trigger was so after dry firing it something fell out the end of the barrel on inspection it was the end of the firing pin so can anyone put me onto a thread or explain how to replace the firing pin please cheers northdude

There is a couple that will do it... Its in the FAQ's and under trigger work/trigger jobs perklo. Pictures too!  Your gonna wnat to make a ''slave pin'' from a drill or other correct diameter material.

The firing pin itself can be ordered from Numrich Gun Parts.  You may have to measure the broken pieces to make sure you get the correct one.  Of course being in New Zeeland that might not be an option and you may have to make your own.  Let us know and we can probably come up with dimensions for you.  Don't throw the old pieces away as you may have to use them as template to make another one.

Once you have taken the rifle apart and put it together it becomes a lot less intimidating.  A piece of cake, really....

the torsion bars that some old cars use to hold the trunk open are said be excellent material to lathe a pin from.  No heat treat necessary, and near free!

As is 'drill rod', water or oil quench, though water quench would be easier for home IF you decided to harden. Ive made pins and not hardened and they have worked fine for the number of rounds I used them for.
When turning the Carbide lathe tools are best for this.

Lesson learned! Handis don't like to be dry-fired. Get a couple of spare firing pins while you are at it. I keep my spares with the slave-pin set I made to get my gun back together. I have 3 Handi Rifles and have replaced the firing pin in one at least four times over the past 10 years. There is a difference between the SB-1 (shotgun) and the SB-2 (rifle) firing pins. Worst case you can make one from drill rod.

northdude,  welcome to GBO from the USA. Take CW's advise and check out perklo's tutorial on the Handi's, it is very good and helpful. If you have to make your own pin, find someone witha mini-lathe, it should make a new pin in short order.  Take care and keep us informed, John.

to make your own slave pin just cut the back end off of a cheap drill bit. no machining needed.

A piece of 3/16" wood dowel works just fine for a slave pin.  ;)

Welcome!  While your making the slave pin, you just might want to make a dummy round for dry firing.  It's also in the FAQ's.
