.35 Whelen rimmed?

Anyone here have any experience with this modification?  If so what brass did you use?

I'm just batting around ideas for my next Handi...

Did  this a few years back. Can't remember for sure but seem like the brass only needed case mouths trued up...the length was about spot on after case forming whereas the '06 needed trimming.
As for preformance, I saw no change. I wasn't having a misfire issue so no change there either.
Put it away after checking it out.   G66

If I had a .35 Rem or knew where to get one for a reasonable price, the .356 Win would be an option.  A good option too as I would always down load a Whelen (assuming I get one.)

Another option is a .25-06 Rimed.  I don't have a .25 or .35 rifle in my safe and I'd like to fill one of those holes this year.  Why rimmed, why the he;; not...

Lots of 357 mag/maxi barrels around, it would work fine for either the 35 Rem or 358/356.  ;)

I never want to get between a man and his 'wanna', but after having 'been down that road' of having little calibers and big calibers and a bunch in the middle I had to conclude it wasnt really what it was cracked up to be.

why wreck a gud thing witha rim ??  you still gotta HS or form on tha shoulder anyhow..........and match it to a rim  ::)
it prolly can be done, and I think j2 did this when he was 19-20 in his prep days. but it ended up be'n no different in control.
so it wasa scrapped. no good reason to continue.
maybe few here think a rim will remedy a poor loaded cartridge, factory or inexperienced handloader.
sure there has been sloppy chambers.....but there are great minds in tha design fields of other brand shooters.
good luck and continue on with yur wanna's.............. ;D

I would love to have a 25 rimmed- it is called the 25/35. :) As for all those that insist on circumcising their cartridges :o , to each his own. If you want rimless you should just get a bolt. Otherwise it is like buying a flyrod and putting a spincast reel on it. ??? :-[

I have a Whelen barrel that will be shot a few times before I get a rim counterbore cut and use the 7x65r brass in it. I got 100 good Prvi brass with annealed shoulders for $112 shipped from Reed's. I have the same plans for my 30-06 Handi too.

If they'd make a .25-35 Handi, I'd be first in line to put money down on it.  I think rimmed rounds and single-shots go together like peanut butter and jelly...

Thanx Quick, I never would have thought to look there.  The guy with the .35 rem is looking for something I don't have but I may be able to trade into a .25-06... 

Just what I needed right now a caliber I don't have any bullets for.  Not that has ever stopped me before.

Too bad actual "rimmed" Whelen (and .30/06) brass isn't a REAL shooting product available for gun loonies.

I'm happy with my .356/.358.  Brass is available for both and they can be formed easily from .307 and .308 brass.

For those who may have missed my previous posts, here's a link to a super article by Paco which describes the capabilities of this great cartridge.
 I load both .356 and .358 to Paco's high levels and see no difference in accuracy or performance, rimmed or rimless.

While I love the idea of a rimmed conversion, the cost of the brass for it is nuts.  I like to keep my wildcat rounds cheap and easy but this is only one of the two...

Right now I'm negotiating for .25-06 barrel  in exchange for my .223 bull barrel.  This would be great since I don't see a good reason to have 2 heavy .223's.   A .35 rem or .356 Win is still on the list...

Later on I might get a super light .223 for one of the grandson's first hunts but I have plenty of time for that.

If the deal for the .250-06 falls though, I may have this barrel reamed to .30-30/.224 improved.  I'm not sure of the name of that round but I've seen a few of them it would be an interesting round to have in the collection...

I almost went there myself as I just like the classic rimmed cartridges. Story is the ImpZip is easy on barrels compared to a bunch of the other high-steppers. Then I went through my 'caliber need reappraisal' and I just didnt 'need' to be there. Fact is, IMHO, the .223 will do all a .24 cal. bullet should be doing.
But this hobby is about what we want, not just need or justify! If it trips yer trigger, DO IT  ;D

I probably won't but sometime I have to go through the process to see if the want is strong enough to go from want to have to gotta have...

This time the .25-06 want won out.  It's been growing for a while and has gotten much stronger since getting a .25-35 is looking too expensive.  I'll probably only load it to .25-35 levels anyway unless I get a chance for some long range varmints.
