Adjustable front sights (Q added 2nd reply)
« on: April 23, 2013, 10:54:29 AM »
Found what I may end up using on my .357 barrel.  I thought I'd share for those looking for front sights for accessory barrels.  Since I'll need to d/t anyway and I believe that the verticle adjustment range would give a lot of room to work with.  That and a WGRS should do the trick.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated too.

For a winged sight the only other option appears to be Skinner that I have found.  The Skinner is $10 less, but it doesn't have the adjustment range.  I'm going to have to experiment with a Contender front sight I have lying around somewhere and see if I don't need the extra adjustment range.

For those with Talo .357 barrels, what is the front sight height off the barrel?  What is the factory front sight height and screw spacing (or are they dovetailed?) on the 30-30 barrels as well?  I would like to get a general idea before mine get back.  When I called Friday there were less than 25 of each left in inventory, but it seems like if they run out it will only be a week or so to get back in stock.

Modern H&R barrels with screw mounted front sights only use one mounting screw, usually either 3-56 or 6-48, can't help with the sight heights tho.

I've used these before http://www.midwayusa.com/find?userSearchQuery=marbles+ramp+front+sight
You can figure out what height you need here http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=13186/GunTechdetail/Sight_Height_Calculator
You need to have the rear sight you are going to use installed when you do the calculations. It's pretty straight-forward.
I have more guns than I need, but not as many as I want.

Marble's site:  http://www.marblearms.com/frontSights_info.html

Of course they aren't winged which is probably what you are really after.

Yes, I'd prefer winged sights.  Up front anyways.  I'd prefer a one piece ramp/post up front instead of a dovetailed ramp if the winged sights aren't going to work for me.  Once I get it all put together I'll post specs and pics.  I've been browsing a lot and think that the 30-30 may get a scout mounted pistol scope and a rear peep as a failsafe.
