Wasn't there talk a while back of Britain considering withdrawing from the EU - or do I have them confused with someone else?

If true, maybe that's how they "won" the vote, sort of a payback for their insolence!

Really its not surprising. In the last decade or so the Muslim population has doubled, and 4 million have moved in from elsewhere to live. Those that are considered to be "white British" or British born are now a minority. All these different cultures have moved in, and not assimilated to the British culture.  Those that have been concerned about the number of Muslims now in Britain, have been labeled Islamophobes, and those complaining about the direction Britain is going have been labeled racists.  They have become a cesspool of different cultures, and its being celebrated as having diversity.

Any of that sound at all familiar?

I believe your thinking about Italy. I haven't heard anything like that about the UK.
But now Germany is also starting to say the same thing . No one wants to be the one left holding
the ball in the pyramid scheme called the EU .

The burghers have been trying to hold all of this together for some time and getting tired of it. They have Federal elections in the autumn, it should be interesting.

Most violent because of the gun laws.  A thug with a Cricket bat can rob amy and still be tbetter armed than the cops that show up to hit him with night sticks that are 1/2 the size.  Like bringing a knife to a sword fight.
Here you do that and some geezer will pull out a 38 and put two in the thug as well as the police.
In Florida years ago there were two thugs that looked for tourists that got off planes to rob them because they knew they were not armed especally if they were from a forgien country,

The UK has very strict laws on knife possession also, along with some rediculous local laws on what
you can and can't eat . Certain tools used in construction are heavily regulated like the use of nail
guns . Its about the same thing over there its always been with the Britts your guilty of everything
untill proven innocent . A lot of good it does them the mind set of the average criminal in the UK
is that of violent punk rocker . Sorta like was seen in the old movie " A clockwork orange " if
you've ever seen it .

The UK has subjects not Citizens there appears to be quite a difference at least in some. But then I wonder what is stashed away in secret places waiting for a time of need ? Maybe the difference is only in a few ?

Shootall, you asked how the EU came up with that.  They did so by looking at all crimes of violence. This included forced home invasions, muggings, robbery, murder etc.

Just type in "violent crime per 100,000 in UK". You will get several sites.  The british newspaper the Daily Mail reported that Britain has 2,034 violent crimes per 100,000 population, South Africa 1,605, Canada 935 and the USA 466. For all the trumpeting about crime in the USA, Canada has twice the violent crime as the USA.

That would probably include simple assaults as well. We don't have those mass shootings and numerous  random drive by homicides either.

Anna,

Good comparisons , but we have to take into account all the other menial objects in the UK that are
either banned or heavily regulated . There was a township we visited while we were over there for
a conference . They actually had an enforced law there that you could not buy or eat pastries on
Thursday. Fat control I guess or just another way to screw with the minds of the citizens .
Its hard to believe this was once the British Empire . I hope they don't say something like that
about America some day also . Everything we have pride in is under attack just like it is in the UK .
Gangs run wild while ordinary citizens are prevented from defending themselves .
Anymore the only difference between LE and the gangs is that the cops have better looking uniforms .

the UK is a joke.but not a funny joke. cuz we will be in exactly the same situation in 20 yrs.if our rights continue to dissapear at the same rate they have , in 20 years yu will need  a backround chek to buy a frameing hammer.

leatherman or gerber mulitools will be considered deadly weapons.a machete for clearing brush will get yu 10 yrs in jail.

i dont really worry for me, by then ill be too old to care.its the next generation i care for.i do feel bad for my kids.2 out of my 3 will fight for their rights and it wont end well.

When you figure a person can be put away for a long time if he/she resists a home invasion with any weapon, it makes the thugs quite bold!
Something like the "gun free zones" here..and open invitation to murderers.

at one time, it was reported that Britain was considering outlawing pointed knives.  Imagine all of the swords that would have to be turned in as 'deadly weapons' instead of being called what they are 'wall hangers'.

I know I could walk into a bar in NYC with a base ball bat on noone would say a word.  Simply buy a new bat and stick a $3 stick on bow on the top and walk in.  Any one asks and you say it is a present for my Son / Daughter , I am going to see him/ her in the morning and picked it up on my way home do not let me forget it.  and you can have a short baseball bat and no one will bat an eye.  Cops will not say a word to you.

Shootall, only in America. In Britain you are guilty until proven innocent and that would be for defending yourself. The criminals have more rights in britain. You could be out in 7 years for premeditated murder and the judiciary would consider that a harsh sentence.
