annual wellness check
« on: April 25, 2013, 03:29:37 PM »
Went in for that today.  Found out that the medicare advantage does not cover things the former work insurance did.   The sales guy didn't mention that part, just the part of lower premioums and copays.  I should have gone in sooner and got one last go round with all the tests.  Mostly I will not take cholestoral meds unless it becomes a life issue.  Since there is no indication of thyroid, liver, and kidney problems anyway, it is no concern to ME; but what about those who do need them.  You can still get a "free" colonoscope, unless there are polyps to remove, then it is surgery.  AND you can still get a free STD test.  The doc/assistant thinks she can get the PSA done as that is an ongoing situation for me.  I am not willing to do a lot of the next steps anyway as it leads to treatment regimens  I cannot go until I get done having to work for a living.  I find that I am just as happy (relatively) or more to have a woman check on the boys and all.

It looks like the O care is working toward a cost/benefit model.  The whole health care mess is unsustainable anyway, all the way from insurance premiums, procedure costs, and out of pocket stuff.  It was unsustainable before, too.

So much for being elderly.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

Interesting that you should bring this up. Our friend had a colonoscopy as a preventative check. A polyp was found, so now she is on the hook to pay for the exam. Diabolical. We need to know if more things are structured this way. It looks like a technique to discourage preventative tests. I.e. killing people off.
