I own two 336 rifles. One I bought used in 1975, the other, a 336CS, I bought used approx 2005 (using the subtract the first two digets from 100, it was made in1998). The newer one has a safety, the older one much nicer wood and a gold trigger. Older one has a notched blade rear sight (it's ok and gets the job done). The newer one had had a scope and it doesn't have a rear sight. There is a sight mount, no adjustment device, with a hood on the front sight.
I always planned to get a peep/ghost ring rear sight, just never got around to it until now. I have fired the newer gun using the two tips from the sight mount and the hooded front sight. It hits ok at 50 yards. Is there a rear sight I can get to mount using the scope mount holes, without changing the front?
If I can get a quick fix rear sight, I might even upgrade the older 336. Gunsmiths are scarce around here, so I need a simple fix. I may just contact Marlin and get an original rear sight. I picked this gun up cheap and now I have the time to do the upgrades.
