My wife and I got the lay of the land the night before. After a late breakfast the owner of the ranch and I started to move with the herd to try to sort out the bull I wanted. After a bit a clear shot presented itself and I took the shot.
It went through both lungs, just behind the shoulder. I had been working up a458 Winchester Magnum cast bullet load just for this occasion. The herd got protective and a pickup, and end-loader and the Polaris 4x4 was needed to drive them away. The massive herd bull was particularly aggressive!
I endend up with a 2 1/2 year old bull at about 850 lbs. After we got it gutted, I stuck with the guide, and helped skin and quarter it and get it into the walk in cooler. The next morning we got the quarters to the meat cutters.
It was a very enjoyable hunt! The challenge wasn't fast pace or running, but rather steeling my nerves for the 5 second shot opportunity, and keeping an eye out for charging herd members.
