SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico –  A hunger strike among prisoners at Guantanamo Bay keeps growing.
Lt. Col. Samuel House said Saturday that 100 of 166 prisoners at the U.S. base in Cuba have now joined the strike.
He says 19 are receiving liquid nutrients through a nasal tube to prevent dangerous weight loss. House says five of those are at a hospital under observation but that they do not have any life-threatening conditions.
Lawyers for the detainees say the military is undercounting the number of hunger strikers.
Prisoners began the hunger strike in February to protest conditions and indefinite confinement.

... If prison officials hold their ground ongoing cost to the taxpayer should diminish.
... Relieve prison crowding
... If they get hungry enough it shouldn't be necessary to water board to get information.

I disagree with the term criminals in this case. Criminals are handled by our legal system. This is a concentration camp where people are kept indefinitely with no process for release. You know, kinda like the Nazis and the Soviets did. Functionally there is no difference. There are technical differences as to policy for treating the prisoners, but in terms of imprisoning people identified as undesirable, it's the same thing.

 If the 'Powers that Be" would go ahead and allow the Military Tribunals that Enemy Combatants call for, there would be no "indefinite confinement". Sentencing is well covered in these kinds of things, we just don't have the Political Will for it, IMO.

CONAN. I replaced criminals with POWS, after all, they were taken prisoner in the GWOI, or global war on islam. They are REFUSING to eat, it is not being withheld from them. They hurt only themselves. POWDERMAN.

If 'n they don't want to eat,,, who are we to make them eat or force feed them?
I think the most humane thing to do would ask them if they planned to starve themselves to death.
If that is what they are planning to do,,then we should stop tempting them with food and just quit serving them anything from now until they accomplish their goal!
