At least it looks that way from here.  How difficult is it to get permission to hog hunt (and/or nutria) on private land?  I already know I'm going to miss going out for groundhogs, but nutria may fill that void if I can find somewhere to go shoot them.  I'm open to just about anything.  I'll have a few options open to me for either from shotgun, rimfire, and centerfire.  I've also noticed that most WMA's prohibit centerfire rifles.  Is that because they are crowded or concerns of ricochet into nearby population pockets?

Double check the Florida Wildlife Commission web page for current laws, rules, and regs.  Most WMA's are open seasonally with NO HUNTING in off seasons, and seasons being Fall Deer and Turkey and Spring Turkey, all seasons now closed.

Private land hunting is 24/7/365 for feral hogs, and perhaps Nutria, although I have never hunted the latter, but double check the FWC game regs.  Nutria, being waterborne animals, and center-fire and rim-fire rifles onto water bodies bodes ill for ricochets, perhaps the shotgun is more appropriate, although ask your land owner.

I have no insight into who to approach for permission.  Others will have to answer that.

I figured nutria would be an issue with cf, but deer and hogs?  I've checked through the regs a few times already.  Highlands and Polk counties are where I'm concentrating my search, but I may end up a little closer to Tampa by the time all is done.  I have to go where the job is.  Thank you for the reply though.

Both center-fire and rim-fire can be hog guns.  I have often shot hogs between the ears and eyes with a rim-fire 22-long cal Ruger 77 bolt action rifle as well as shoulder, head and neck shots with .223, 30-30, 270, 338, and 45 colt. Kill 'em all.  there is no End of Line with hogs.

I'm hoping to kill a few anyway.  We'll see where I end up.
