California trying to ban bullets .
« on: April 28, 2013, 04:26:06 AM »
I think they have tried this before but its often been said that this was an angle they would use to
curb our gun rights . Do it for the environment do it for the children .
I don't think I have ever seen a case of anyone getting lead poisoning from being shot .
Usually they have other complications to worry about this report is very suspicious of its intent.

Unforotunately I live in the weirdest and weirdest of states. Hunting in central Kalif. where the condors live gets expensive. Non-lead bullets run 40 to 50 bucks a box compared to lead around 20 odd bucks. The math shows that if a state wide ban on lead ammo passes recreational shooting will die on the vine.
Pity the young boy that wants to blast tin cans w/ his 22. It used to cost less than 10 bucks for a boy to shoot a couple hundred bullets to his heart's content.
What I do is use lead bullets to zero my gun, then shoot one or two coppers to make sure of the zero, then save 'em for hunting. Cannot afford to spray hundreds of dollars down range.
I'm thinking of relocating to a more sane state.
One of our assemblymen recently tried to pass a law giving homleless immunity from prosecution if they sleep in business doorways, or use water fountains to clean themselves up, or defecate on the sidewalks. He also wanted to mandate cities and counties provide health cents for the homeless, stuff like clean bathroom and shower facilities.  Great, where is all the money gonna come from ?  Maybe I should go homeless and take advantage of these new public bathroom facilities.
Our liberal politicians and legislators have their ass where their brains should be.

Study after study has shown how dangerous distracted driving is yet people continue to talk on their cell phones while driving. Driving in the U.S. requires your full attention. Many states and countries have made it illegal to use a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle and the federal government should follow their lead. Banning the use of cell phones while driving would have the added benefit of making the no-texting law enforceable.

how can an illegal alien be allowed on a jury? I have a right to trial by a jury of my peers. That means citizens.

Since the Defense has the ability to vet all potential jury members it now becomes the question whether or not he/she can ask to verify citizenship of any or all jury selections. Dunno, probably would be objected to by the ACLU or similar.

Anna, I've seen lots of folks get lethal doses of lead, and were dead any where from instantly, to lingering several weeks depending on the how the dose was applied. Once in 1983, I saw three young men die from lead poisoning in one day. Lead poisoning is very real. :D

We have to use non lead bullets for hunting in Condor areas.  I once had a pig hunt postponed due to a Condor having lead poison.  The Enviromental Wackos think the birds eat the gut piles of deer and pigs and eat the bullets causing the problems.  Found out the Condor ate a wheel weight at the Necropsy.
But I have All copper bullets for the center fire guns and tin or all copper for the rimfires.

What the general public doesn't know is that much of our licence fees and other taxes associated with hunting go to various wildlife conservation efforts. Less people hunting = less conservation funding. All many folks know about hunters is that Bambi's Mom was shot by one of us evil thugs...

Most of the areas where I grew up hunting are in the CA condor zone. One of the reasons I have two 17 HMR rifles is because there's an inexpensive, accurate shooting non-lead load in HMR (CCI TNT Green). Unfortunately, the current 22 lr lead free ammo sucks.

If the issue were only about lead poisoning, all the CA DFG would need to do is impose an outrageous fine and/or jail time for anyone leaving a gut pile or dead animal un-burried. Anyone who doesn't heed that kind of penalty isn't going to worry about buying lead ammo either.

Although I hate this anti-lead crap and all other back door gun control, the mandated use of lead-free ammo for hunting really isn't usually the financial burden many make it out to be (one exception would of course be if no lead-free bullets were produced for your particular rifle) Ammo is only a minor part of the cost of the average hunt, all things considered. Best to get used to the idea; I imagine all hunting with lead will be banned nation-wide some day soon.

What in the world does a non lead bullet consist of ?

The short answer is expensive stuff. Like mentioned copper or copper alloy, zinc covered with copper or steel. Some lead free bullets meant for indoor ranges contain lead but it is sealed and some how gets called lead free  ::) . I wonder how long it will be before things like hevi shot is used for bullet cores , bullets could be shorter for weight . Ammo companies most likely have products waiting for a time that will force buyers to purchase them at high prices. Tire weights and in some places fishing sinkers are not lead anymore. There is a push to get it out of all plumbing products . I was in a building last week that still had a lead water service coming in . Just think how many bullets could be made from 50 ' od 1 1/4 lead pipe.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

The Democrats, the party of the poor in brain power, should be given a card key to enter and live in public bathrooms.  Republicans don't get a card but should have to buy a token with the money they saved from cheap labor.  Especially important, since Republicans are accustomed to paying their own way! :D

         you have to remember that is "Hollyweird Land".. and the 'banned brains' for over half their folks years ago.  I recall one of their brainy TV productions as follows;
It seems an assassin was preparing his .270 Win for a shot of 200 yds.  He got a box of hollow point cartridges and was filling the hollow points with cyanide.  He planned on shooting his victim in the head..insuring that the cyanide would "poison the brain"!
Do you suppose the genius producer understood the impact of a hollow point .270 on the human brain @ 200 yards? :o :P

Ha ha. I'm reminded of this dumb blonde joke.  Blonde goes to her boyfriend's apt. and finds him in bed with some hot chick. Blonde in anger pulls out her pistol and puts it to her head.
Boyfriend calls out in desperation,"Honey, please, don't do this."
Blonde yells out to him, "Shut up , you two timer. Next bullet is for you."

I'm so glad I escaped from that state!   I used to be a licensed guide there, and I did a lot of pig and quail hunting in those counties affected by the current lead ammo ban.
Since moving to Oklahoma, I have continued to hunt in CA -mostly quail and chukar, and outside of the current lead-free zone.  I used to shoot sporting clays while out there, too.
If California goes totally lead-free, I think that'll pretty much be the end of me doing any hunting or shooting there.  That's a shame, because California has some of the best quail hunting to be found.
It is pretty obvious to me that the objective of this legislation isn't really one of saving me or anything else from ingesting lead.  It is to make shooting so prohibitively expensive that only elites who chose to engage in it can afford to do so.

I totally agree that the lead ban is not about saving us from lead poisoning but a ploy to make hunting and shooting so expensive that few can afford to do it. In a generation there will be no more shooters as teen age boys will not grow up shooting 22's at tin cans. Heck, air rifles might go the way of the dinosaur cuz all air guns shoot lead, except for bb's.
We've survived for many generations with lead bullets, so lead poisoning is just a bogus argument. What next ? Ban lead weights for fishing ?  Where is it going to stop ?

I can sympathize with the good folks in California, but here in NY we have more than our share of ditzy Liberals.  One good thing..we have them pretty well rounded up into the cities and immediate metro areas.  ..But unfortunately, they stoill have more votes than we..even though they are stupid votes!  That's why we have a punks like Schumer for a senator..

I still shoot sporting clays, trap and skeet with lead.  The only place I found that I had to shoot steel was in Pacifica where the shot landed in a tidal creek.  At the point 4 rounds of skeet cost me $100 I found it cheaper to drive 2 hours and shoot over by my friends house and bring my friends kid with me and pay for him.
