Went to the biggest gun show in Fairbanks yesterday. Had given a 375H&H to a friend that runs a table there to sell. I got there two hours after the doors opened. Gun had already sold. Turned around and bought a Pump 38/357. It has a long barrel, and the butt plate is moon shaped. Nickel plated, with nice wood.
Was wondering around and came across an old McClellan saddle, and bridle. Talked to the guy and he said it was a Civil War relic. Was not too sure, but the price was right and I bought it. As I was headed out the door ran into a bunch of friends from different organizations I am a member of. Here came the wife. All the guys started ribbing me saying I was in trouble now when they saw her coming our way. First thing she said was, I've always wanted a McClellan saddle. They were surprised. She helped me get it to the Jeep. Went back inside and almost bought an AR-7, but could not make out the manufactors mark, it was all blurred, and rubbed almost out of existence. Passed on that one, decided to just buy a new one at Frontier Outfitters. Want one to stuff in the raft box when I go on floats. Did buy a Ruger take down 10-22. It lasted till I got home. My neighbor/hunting partner/ 40 yr friend came over and appropreated it for his grandkids. That's OK, I'm going back again today, the guy had several so I'll get another maybe. After getting home and taking it out back and shooting it not too sure I really want one. Got to think about that. Did see a Ruger #1 that I liked, going to take a closer look at it if it's still there. Also looking at a Ruger Super Black Hawk in .44 Mag with a 4" barrel. Everything works fine, just needs reblueing. May hold out for a stainless. There was an M-1 Garand that caught my eye too. Looking for an upper for a DPMS AR, I am looking for either 6.5 Grindel or .50 Beowolf. Taking Sky so I can see him drool, and go crazy looking around. Took the wife yesterday, she bought a bunch of "Bling" earrings, necklesses, pins, and broaches. Surprised she did not buy a single gun. She looked at several, one was a commerative Ruger "Alaska 50th Year" but the guy wanted more than she was willing to pay. It was dark blue with the big dipper stars on the cylinder, and Ivory grips with the state of Alaska in gold inlayed in the ivory. I really thought she was going to buy a 1911, Colt Commander, in .45ACP. She has been wanting one of those for a while now.
I did buy a box of Weatherby .338/378 factory shells. The guy had $40.00 on the box. I told him they were worth a lot more than that, he said he knew it but he had been hauling them around for over a year and he just wanted them to go away. So I bought them, four cans of Winchester powder, and some .22mag shotshells. The brass alone for the Weatherby shells is $80.00 a box of 20. These are loaded with 200gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. I'll use them for Caribou. I checked this morning on line, Weatherby wants $159.00 a box for the 200gr Nosler Accubond. I did good. But mainly that 375H&H went away. I made a good profit on it as well. I paid $350.00 for it at a pawn shop last week. Larry had put $750.00 on it, he got $650.00 for it. Larry only wanted $15.00 for making the sale, I gave him $50.00. I would never have gotten that much out of it on my own.
