New 4570 questions [sights]

I am thinking of buying a new 4570 Handi rifle. I know these come with open sights but I would really like a Williams WRGS peep sight on one. I have one already on a Model 158 3030. Will this mount to the new 4570 handi without having to drill it? If not what peep will work? How accurate are the new 4570  Handis?

There's a bunch of info in the FAQ on sights and what works and what doesn't.  My new .45-70 barrel out of the box first 2 shots went 1" off hand at 25 yards, but hadn't had a chance to test more yet.  My 32" BC barrel was very accurate and actually sub moa with irons out of the box also.    Most likely you will want a different front sight than the standard wide ones for a peep sight.  I'd get a Marbles shorty ramp and a 1-1/6" gold bead sight to get the most out of the peep.

The Williams peep mounts in two of the scope mount holes.  I don't have a 45-70 but I have the WRGS peep on my 22 hornet.  I did have to raise the front sight.  I used a front sight insert from a HiViz set.  Used a finger nail file to fit it to the front sight and then glued it on.  Someone suggested to me I could also use a piece of weedeater line.

Oh, if you want to change front sights make sure you read the FAQ.  The front sights often have some kind of factory adhesive on the screw and you have to heat them up or you'll strip the screw head.  One reason I have the peep on the Hornet is the front sight screw head is stripped.

Nice thing is that you can mount a scope and find out what load is your happy place then drop the scope and switch to Irons; instills a lot of confidence.
It seems to be hard to find a load that the typical 45-70 doesnt shoot well. I know I like my Ultra Hunter model very much.

And this was my first 4 shots with it at 50 yards.

This pic is not upside down.  I stapled the target up that way.  I didn't have the right sized screwdriver with to loosen the lock screws on the sight and I've since ordered thumb screws to replace those...  This is my only gripe about the sight, a target knob sight should not need tools to adjust and not spend 20 bux more to get it that way.

I didn't have to change the front sight and I started with it all the way at the bottom.  I figure I have at least 300 yards worth of drop left in the adjustments.

I'm not the least bit sorry I skipped putting a scope on this rifle.  Also it's rapidly becoming my favorite rifle and I have at least 20 to choose from...

Stuck one on my 45-70. No problem at all. Didn't have to touch the front sight.

Probably just me, but a wide flat front blade sight just doesn't work in peeps.  I like a fine dot that centers well and I get more accuracy that way personally.  If you like the wedge factory sights, that's great though.  Saves some dough.
