Forearm for Gary Reeder barrel
« on: April 29, 2013, 06:42:42 AM »
Anybody have any idea where I can get a Walnut forearm for a Gary Reeder barrel as it is way to heavy for the standard Encore Barrel?

Pistol or rifle? I could open up another one of mine on the mill if you have no luck elsewhere assuming that yours is 1" at muzzle.

Even though it is a little over 17 inches I would rather use it as a pistol.  It is a beautiful barrel though and I am looking foreword to see how it shoots.  I have heard that Pachmayr makes an oversize one.  Just started looking this afternoon so we will find one.  I want to check out the custom grip and forearm makers as well and see what they come up with. I heard of a site called Tony's forends so I went to his web site and have a call into him.   Might as well dress it up if I can.  Just ordered a new barrel from MGM in a 280 Rem with a diamond design going down the barrel.  I look foreword to getting that.  Been going out and shooting a number of my barrels and sighting them in.  I was holding my 30/06 15 inch Encore a little to loose the other day and got the scope back on the bridge of my nose slightly.  Just a small cut so no harm done really.  Been shooting for a good many years without doing that but I guess their is a first time for everything.  The o6 packs a pretty good whallop at both ends.  After shooting a box and a half I knew I had shot something.  LOL

A wood forend is easy to make into any size you need.  Get a dowel the size of the barrel, wrap a layer of sandpaper around it, and sand the channel to the right size.  It takes a little work but is cheaper than buying a mill.
