Worst/best colleges
« on: May 01, 2013, 03:16:40 AM »
In this inquiry aimed at students, the colleges are rated by the students as to which school has the best/worst professors..the results may surprise some.  I was surprised, since I have a semester credit with a historic university mentioned among the worst.  However, it was "one of the best of the worst"!  ;) ;D  .
This may be good info if you have a student heading off to school.  First..the 25 worst:

   http://finance.yahoo.com/news/25-universities-with-the-worst-professors-204146173.html

They also listed the 25 best..

Did you see any Ivy League colleges in the list?

They are all bad. They are nothing but a bunch of organized crime syndicates. When I graduate and receive my degree I will have don it in spite of the college. I don't believe they want to graduate many people. They want to bog degrees down with worthless classes so people have to keep shelling out money. I recently did an audit of my class credits. I have 87. According to the cute little brochure for my program the entire degree was only supposed to consist of 67 credits. I haven't even started the program yet. All of my 87 credits were "prerequisites" in other words classes you don't really need but need to get into the other classes you don't really need but need in order to graduate. That is the problem with this country. College programs dabble in everything and specialize in nothing. Out of the 87 credits I have only 9 of them have anything to do with healthcare. The rest are "humanities" and "liberal arts" and ridiculous, and redundant, and completely worthless in the real world math classes. Right now I am working on a statistics class. In a lame attempt to make this class resemble healthcare they ask questions about blood pressure statistics. One question asks me to find the "R" value of 20 different blood pressures. Guess what treatments I can perform based on an "R" value? Exactly zero. In fact if I took the time to find the "R" value of a bunch of your blood pressures in an emergency situation you would be dead by the time I completed the 27 steps to get the answer that I didnt really need in the first place.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

As far as rankings.. it seems to depend upon WHO is doing the rankings.  I didn't catch who was doing the ranking in the US News article; was it the US News.
The best/worst rankings I provided were by students themselves concerning the professors they studied under..just how helpful, precise and effective they are.  If you have a student about to attend, it seems as though the student could have the brightest teacher in the world, but if he cannot communicate and pass on that brilliance, where does that leave the student?

:)  Howdy! Most colleges that offer a Bachelor of Arts or any Bachelor's degree require 3 to 4 courses in English, 2 courses in history, and 2 courses in government regardless of what your major is. However, I have looked at the pre-requisites for dental, pharmacy, and veterinarian schools and most do not require a Bachelors degree. A list of what you need to apply for admission is given, but most applicants go ahead and get a Bachelors degree prior to application. Also, once a professor has gained tenure, they become very difficult to discharge from a University. Always, Gene

Cost to repay $100k of student loan debt: $800 per month for over 20 years. I.e., the cost of a mortgage. Forget the schools, follow the money.

Some are beginning to question the actual value of college.  More often the smart young person is inclined to study in a trade school in order to get his first job in the field he likes.then work hard, often with the firm he/she works for supplying pertinent college studies to augment his/her job.
An important ingredient for success is HARD WORK...something not all young people today want to get involved with !  Fox News yesterday spoke of a poll, i believe by Pew or Gallup which found that of current college youth some 62% want to have plenty of wealth, but only 39% are willing to work hard for it!
